Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

In this gleeful tale of animal one-upmanship, a pudgy canine schemes to devour a cat's picnic lunch at the beach. He does this in classic cartoon fashion, just as a stealthy snacker would misdirect a companion's attention-"Hey, what's that over there?"-to swipe a french fry. " 'Look up,' said the dog. How many butterflies can you see?' 'One,' said the cat. So the dog sneaked one small cupcake." As the cat becomes engrossed in the game and wanders farther from the food, the dog munches two fish, three tomatoes, four sandwiches and so on. When the cat finally returns, she teases the dog for overeating, then unexpectedly asks, "Want to play again tomorrow?" Coplans (Dottie) leaves readers wondering whether the dog outsmarted the cat or whether the cat intentionally went along with the ploy; both characters grin mischievously. The sugary watercolors don't break new ground, but this story offers a helpful and diverting counting lesson-and adds a sly trick to readers' repertoires. Ages 2-6.

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-K?This counting book's humor falls flat. A dog walks along the beach and meets a smiling cat setting out a picnic. When Cat refuses to share her lunch with him, Dog engages her in a "game." He asks a series of questions that require her attention while she counts from 1-10 objects. "How many butterflies can you see?...How many castles on the sand?" In the meantime, the pup helps himself to the treats and then threatens, "I'm coming to get you." "You'll never catch me," she says, "You've had too much to eat." And she invites him to come and play again the next day. The bright, stylized watercolor cartoons are appealing but too static to give dimension to the characters' odd actions, and children may well be confused by the mean-spirited nature of the animals' play. There are many, many better counting books available; skip this one.?Anne Connor, Los Angeles Public Library

This review is from: Cat and Dog (Hardcover)
This is one of the greatest written books of all time. From the first page, cat and dog show their personality; brilliant and liminous. As you read on, you travel through their life, on of hardships and happiness. This book solves one of the biggest questions: Can cats and dogs get along? And the answer is yes! Through their playful games, meaningful talks, and neccesary understanding, it is shown that this is Peta's best book yet! A must read!
