This translation misses the mark. The other version, Chat Chapeaute, is much better, as is "Les Oeufs Verts Au Jambon". My two-year-old loves both of the latter.

the entire joy of Dr Seuss's "Cat in the Hat" is its rhyming scheme. "Le Chat Au Chapeau" is a prose story with no rhyming scheme at all. If you're after the plot, I suppose it's ok but don't expect the "Cat in the Hat" experience.

I have several language versions of the Cat in the Hat and other beloved children's books. The Russian version of the Cat in the Hat is WONDERFUL, as is the Yiddish, Hebrew and also the Mandarin - but this French version is beyond disappointing. It's a direct translation without rhyming- at all, ever- or even syncopation. Thoughtless and sad. The language of Molière is done a disservice as is Dr. Seuss- and any one reading this dreadful book.

It is a great idea to have these books in French and English. The only problem is that some of the charm of Dr.Seuss is lost in this exact translation. The rhyme rarely translates from French to English. Other than that, the book is very well done and the words are exact so it is a good learning tool.

I've always enjoyed "The Cat in the Hat". I wanted to share it with my friends' children who speak English & French. I thought that they would appreciate how it rhymes in English and not in French. I was correct - they love the rhyme! I also sent them "Good Night Moon" in English & French. They hear & mimic the rhyme for that story too.

I purchased this book as a gift to a friend with a 15 month old grandson. My friend and I both share a love for the French language. She loved the book, and so did I. I may purchase one for my own collection and future grandchildren. A fun way to share Dr.Seuss no matter what age you are.

Extremely expensive postage from Allnewbooks and 1 month later the book is not here. it was obviously sent by the slow boat via China and the automatic postage rate (which you cant see until the purchase is completed) was enough for the fastest airpost. Very unimpressed by this appalling seller. I will never use them again.
