A novelization of a movie adaptation of a book., November 21, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Cat in the Hat Novelization (Junior Novelization) (Paperback)
It's long been accepted that the movie machine churns onward, watering down any bits of culture that it touches like some twisted King Midas. But come on. This is already a book. A GREAT book. A classic, if I may be so bold. Go buy that one instead. This book is an attempt by Random House to capitalize on customer confusion. With the release of the movie adaptation of Cat in the Hat, parents will be reminded of what a great book that was, and will run out to buy it for their children -if they don't own it already. And what will they see a point of purchase display of in their local Barnes & Noble? The original? No. They'll see a thousand versions of this rehash. I'd wager that by rewriting the story, Theodore Geisel's (Dr. Seuss's) family gets no royalties-or reduced royalties- for their use of his characters.
Does that seem fair? Does that seem right? That a publisher and a studio are like thieves in the night? I say no! No, sir! Not right! Not right for you, nor your tyke!
