My cat is pooping in the house every week or two and seems really constipated. Here's what we tried, how much my cat liked it, and how much it seemed to work:

Laxatone - He loved it at first and then refused it. It didn't work anyway.

Cisapride (a motility enhancer - not a laxative - by prescription) - He loves the beef flavor, but it didn't work, even with an increased dosage.

Lax'Aire - He absolutely loves the flavor, but it didn't work (maybe it would with a higher dosage but I ran out and now can't seem to find it anywhere).

CatLax (this exact product) - He absolutely loves this one too - can't get enough. It didn't work with the regular dosage (1-1.5 inch per day for my 18 lb cat), so I doubled the dosage (hopefully it's safe to do). So far so good, but I'll post an update if if I find out that it doesn't work.

If anyone has suggestions for getting my cat to go in the litter box or to further help his constipation problem, please help! We tried some of the cat-attract stuff that you put in the litter box and it didn't work.

UPDATE - we found a solution! It's royal canin gastrointestinal care fiber control cat food. See my review there. Forget all of these constipation remedies. None of them seem to work, at least not well enough.

I've been paying $7 a tube at my vet's office for years. As far as I can tell this is the same product I get from my vet. The expiration dates are good and the packaging is identical. this is the only laxative/hairball medication my cat will eat. He has tried many other brands. He loves the flavor. I was happy to find this so cheap. I will order again.

The CatLax came promptly and is the same flavor my cat likes! Our vet retired, and the new vet didn't have CatLax, but instead had something about 4 times as expensive with no guarantee the cat would take it. I was able to order 2 tubes + shipping for less than the new vet's replacement for CatLax. Thanks for making it available and getting it here quickly!

I have an older cat whose digestive system has slowed over the years leading to a bowel impaction. My vet suggested giving her Cat Lax three times a week, and she has had no digestive problems at all since then. It has been six years now, and it's still keeping things moving for her.

I purchased this product because people said their cats wouldn't eat anything but would eat this. My cat won't eat it. I have to put it on her paw and hope that she doesn't fling it all over the place(it's not as firm as some of the other ones). Then I get the silent treatment.

Miss Kitty is the consummate groomer of her medium length fur. She has always had difficulty w/ hairballs & "getting the poop out"... not a great subject, but it can be misery for your pet & if not taken care of can cause more serious medical problems. I mixed this in w/ her food right at 1st; one time I just put some on my finger & she licked it right off! (I usually never have that kind of luck) The trick is knowing how much to give; I cover the end of my finger tip & about a centimeter high, 1 to 2 times a day. The way I adjust the dose is just watch the cat box. Does she go every day? What's the consistency...soft looking or that of a rock? It's made a HUGE difference for M.K. and it has cut waaaay down on vomiting hairballs!!!

Our older cat is a fastidious groomer and hence is plagued by hairballs which either get hacked up or can also lead to constipation. The vet said neither is good for long term health and recommended this product (at over twice the price!). It has worked like magic! NO hairballs and definitely making an easier go for senior kitty. I place an inch of it in his food 3x a week. He eats it first so clearly it's an appealing flavor. We store it in the fridge and one tube lasts quite a while. We appreciate the lower shipping price from the vendor we use here and I wish they would offer free shipping for a bulk purchase -- just a thought.
