From the Author
A dog person for over 40 years, when I began dating and eventually married my current wife I found relating to her 3 cats to be a totally new and fascinating experience. If dogs are like little boys who just don't speak English, to the uninitiated, cats are like creatures from another planet. Their communication is obscure, their interests otherworldly, and their powers amazing. My next project, after embarking on a course of allergy shots, was to learn more about these creatures. While my attraction to my wife-to-be had been immediate and explosive, my understanding of and affection for her cats grew over time. Eventually, I too became a cat person. Then, one day, I sat down in my writing chair, propped my clip board against my thigh, and began to write an explanation of cats. Pywacket, an extremely shy, black and white cat who had come to live with us at the age of 8 weeks soon after my wife and I set up joint housekeeping, placed herself on the back of my chair, as she usually did, to look over what I was writing and watch for an opportunity to insert herself between me and my work. Together, she and I shaped what I had read in numerous books on the subject into an explanation of cats, how they operate, and what they need from us to continue in good operating order. In my research I had come across some startling information about the history of the cat-human relationship. During the Middle Ages, it appears, cats were thought of as agents of the devil and persecuted much like various human minorities have been persecuted over the years. In the meanwhile, they put an end to the Plague by killing off the rats that carried it. I also learned how cats "see" in the dark and how they find their way home over great distances. All this, Pywacket and I put into the audio book, along with a lot of other information.
The reviewers have been kind to this work, and, if you care about cats, you will enjoy it too.
