5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Dr. Suess
As a teacher of struggling readers, this book has been a big hit. It looks and feels like a bigger chapter book, but is fun and easy to read. The students really enjoy it and are willing to read it over and over again, which is just what they need. The illustrations are simple and funny. Even my third graders and other fluent readers have fun with the rhymes and silly...

1.0 out of 5 stars What a waste...
Someone gave this to my 5-year old son as a gift, so it was free, but I still feel like we got ripped off. First of all, the prose lacks any sort of cleverness or creativity- the title of the book is about as good as it gets. Even so, the book could have been decent with some good illustrations. Unfortunately, the black and white line drawings that pass as illustrations...

4.0 out of 5 stars Where was this book when I needed it?, July 7, 2011
Love the book! And for the best reasons! I teach kids with dyslexia and finding good books that follow a basic pattern that helps develop decoding skills is very hard to do. This book is just perfect. Not only that, the book reinforces my concept book about why words aren't fair. This is a refrain that I hear constantly and thus, I was compelled to write my book "Words Aren't Fair" to encourage struggling readers. When words aren't fair, kids get discouraged. But when the words ARE fair, which is 70% of the time, then kids can read books like this book. I am going to recommend it to all my kids and their parents.
Thanks from the kids and the teachers!

5.0 out of 5 stars My reluctant reader loves it!, June 16, 2011
Next to the Bob Books, this is my 6yo son's new favorite. I love that it is a bit bigger (and far more difficult to lose) than the Bob Books and my son is more than willing to read from it. He even sits on his own to read it, something I discover because I can hear him laughing from the other room.

I am a reading tutor for elementary grades, mostly. My students love this book because of its silliness. I love it because it uses the same rhyming sounds for the whole chapter. Very useful tool for encouraging reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cat in the Hat is Flat, December 10, 2010

I ordered this book for my daughter who is in 3rd grade. She is a struggling reader and it is hard to find books that she can read easily that actually hold her interest. She is also starting to get self-concious about how a book "looks" - wants it to be a "chapter book" but can't always read them. She loved this book and read it straight through the first night she got it. It took her about 40 minutes, which is twice as long as she normally reads, and she didn't stop every 5 minutes to ask me how much longer she had to read for! She told me she wants to read it again which is also something I have a hard time getting her to do and even asked me to order more of the series. Thank you Andy Griffiths!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not what you would guess!, May 13, 2010

What a clever way to not only amuse but draw the reader (in this case a 6 year old boy) into reading more & more! My son is so excited to be reading this thick, chapter book. Maybe a first grade level. He laughs at all the black and white drawings and really enjoys the humor. A wonderful, rhyming, reader disgused aa a "big kid" book. Bravo!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic early reader, September 10, 2009
By
This review is from: The Cat on the Mat Is Flat (Hardcover)
My daughter was so sick of the early readers she had been reading...boring things like "I see Sam. See me Sam." This is a great early reader that gets the kids engaged and having fun reading. I love it and would love to find others like it!

5.0 out of 5 stars My first grade boy LOVED this book, April 15, 2009
This review is from: The Cat on the Mat Is Flat (Hardcover)
My first grade boy loves being read to (harry potter, science books, beautiful picture books) but is reluctant to read on his own unless he is asked to in school or for his requisite 15 minutes of nightly reading. I took this book out of the library because I thought the rhymes were hilarious. He has picked it up, read it on his own without being asked and then picked it up again and reread all his favorite parts. In the same day! And yes he loves capt. underpants (sigh) and Jon Scieska (yeah!).

This review is from: The Cat on the Mat Is Flat (Hardcover)
This is a truly funny early reader, especially for boys or anyone with a slightly sick sense of humor. Griffiths is an Australian author likely to appeal to anyone who enjoys Dav Pilkey or Jon Scieska. So many early readers are so bland--but not this one. This book made my 13 year old roar with laughter as we read it out loud together, just for fun. The illustrations are also very funny.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book for early reading, January 16, 2009
This review is from: The Cat on the Mat Is Flat (Hardcover)
This book is enjoyed by both my 4 year old and 7 year old. The 4 year old loves to listen to the stories and enjoys the picture illustrations, and the 7 year old used this book to become more comfortable with the decoding process of reading. The illustrations are humerous and keep the children interested in wanting to read the stories. I'm glad I found this book.
