5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!
This was a great story. Futuristic, with an intriguing premise. "Yai" is a human pilot that crashes on a planet of cat-people. He is taken as a slave by their alpha leader, Tryl. But, what will happen when Yai's people come looking? Will he stay with the one he has come to love, or leave?

Despite the short length (this was a long novella), I came to care...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite
I had high hopes for this book as far as plot went, because all of the reviews were practically gushing over it. However, I found it lacking in the sense that the author did not take the time to delve into the characters enough. It seemed too simple. I can't exactly go into what I mean, because others haven't read this and I don't want to ruin it. It seemed as though...

Despite the short length (this was a long novella), I came to care about the characters. One reviewer was unhappy with the abrupt ending. I didn't see it as abrupt; it was much like any other novella's ending. I can only hope there will be more adventures with these two. Would I have preferred a lower price, certainly. But I would happily pay $10 again knowing what I was getting, a story worth re-reading again and again. Well written and highly recommended.

Illian Obsidian has another book available that doesn't come up with an aauthor search! Check out: "Get Lucky: Seven Seductions from His and His Kisses." Illian co-authors it with JJ Massa.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite, August 26, 2007

I had high hopes for this book as far as plot went, because all of the reviews were practically gushing over it. However, I found it lacking in the sense that the author did not take the time to delve into the characters enough. It seemed too simple. I can't exactly go into what I mean, because others haven't read this and I don't want to ruin it. It seemed as though it had been written for the sex and the plot was an afterthought. Perhaps if it had been longer and had the plot been explored more fully, I would have given five stars. As it stands, if all you want is sex with a minimum plot, this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting Paranormal M/M romance!, January 6, 2007

Cat Toy is simply captivating. It may be less than 100 pages but it is a gem of a story. Both plot and characters are fascinating. The cat men are such sensual creatures, all fur and power, and I love their possessiveness over their human slaves or toys.
I love paranormal M/M romance, in which the alpha alien dominate his submissive human lover. Such sexual pairing.
This writer has a flair. Checking "loveyoudivine" website, it is disappointing that she has not written any more novel length M/M.

[...]The first thing I noticed was that "Cat Toy" wasn't very well written-- the author's writing style reminded me of the amateur unpublished works on fanfiction.net. I expect something better from a published book, and this didn't meet my expectations at all. It was littered with errors and I often questioned if the the company that published this even read it first.

This book is hardly 96 pages, since the story starts on page 9 and ends around 92. I was sure that there was no way any good plot could form in that amount, and I was right. A few space ships, other-worldly gadgets, and culture differences were thrown in and none of it was really explained.

As a reader I was not satisfied at all with this book, for the size and quality of "Cat Toy" it should probably be in the 'bargain bin' for less than 5.00 dollars. I feel that the characters were not developed well at all and that the plot was virtually non-existent. It seemed as if Illian sat down and wrote this book in a couple of hours. Many of the characters, especially the humans made decisions that didn't feel very realistic, they submitted to this new world and these furry giants without a fight and hardly a question! It left me bored after the first few sex scenes, and then happy only because the book was almost over.

Overall: If all you want is to read lots of sex then buy the book for [...]or go on adultfanfiction.net and find the same for free (and many of the stories are of better quality too.) However, if your searching for just a little more... keep on searching.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it except for, March 9, 2007
This review is from: Cat Toy (Paperback)
the ending! It simply ends. This is a common occurance in "long short stories" such as this one. It really feels (and I kind of suspect) that the publishers take a story and chop it in half...and this is the first half. Where's the rest of it? Probably in a future book that will be about the "continuing adventures" of Tryl and Yai. It seems to be the way books from loveyoudivine are published. Although I really do love this story, the book is overpriced and should have been a $4.95 e-book instead. However since paperback is the only option, consider the fact that the print font is fairly large, but the cover art is extremely bad (apparently the cat people are close relations of one of Jim Hensen's Muppet or Sesame Street characters). Thus, I'd buy it from a different merchant and try to get it for $7.95 or less... with heavy emphasis on the less because the cover art really is that bad and the abrupt ending is pretty annoying.

5.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this book, October 5, 2006
This review is from: Cat Toy (Paperback)
I still reread it all the time. Here's the blurb on the back cover:

A human male, a pilot, unsure of his place in the world and unsure of what he wants in life. What happens when one lone man crashes on a planet inhabited by men very different?

He learns that cats are playful, aggressive creatures who value their toys a great deal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story - but misses the mark, March 1, 2011
This review is from: Cat Toy (Kindle Edition)
Stranded on an alien planet populated by cat men, a lone human is pursed and captured, only to be rescued by another cat man. The humans only solace, at least his rescuer does not smell as bad as the one who originally caught him. His rescuer, Tryl, is ruthless, the local leader, and he is intent on making his new captive his slave, or more correctly, his pet, whom he names Yai. He expects complete and unquestioning obedience from his pet, and he expects his pet to share his bed and to satisfy him sexually, he also likes playing with his pets assets, brining him to arousal and fulfillment, and violating his most private part. But as the powerful local leader, a leader how tolerates no nonsense from his people, how tender will he be with his pet?

How will Yai respond to his new master's demands, and who will he react when Tryl expects to take him from behind with his enormous member, these cat men being very much larger than humans in every respect? And when eventually a rescue party comes for Yai, will he choose to stay with Tryl or return to his own people?

While Cat Toy is a lovely tale, it could have been so much better. As with many of these kindle stories it is relatively short; that is not always to the detriment of the story, but in this case it is. So much is missing, so many opportunities are passed over, opportunities to expand on the growing relationship between master and slave, incidents are not fully developed. Much is not explained fully, for example we do not know how much bigger the cat men are than humans, which left me with confusing images as to their relative size.

The plot is almost identical to What Worse Place Can I Beg In Your Love? by Syd McGinley What Worse Place Can I Beg In Your Love? where it is much better handled, and similar to Salve Auction by Stormy Glenn, (Slave Auction (Spaced Out for Love), which is so much better in every respect. Cat Pet has the potential for a really good story, there are few really interesting touches such as the kissing, but even that is not explored as deeply as it might have been, in the end one feels let down by the general lack of exploration.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spicy! But Lacking!!, January 2, 2009
By
This review is from: Cat Toy (Paperback)
Hmmmm, where to start? First, I liked this book. I liked the premise of 'Cat People,' and I love Sci-Fi. Almost as much as I love M/M romance with an Alpha/sub combination. This book has all of that. It would be a great read if the author had invested just a little more effort in the quality of the writing---it felt a bit thrown together, with a rather abrubt ending.....that said, this is yaoi flavored, you will enjoy it-taken with a grain of salt. Just remember--not every 'fun' book can be a masterpiece.....and this was a 'fun' read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cat Toy by Illian Obsidian, August 5, 2007
This review is from: Cat Toy (Paperback)
John is a space pilot stranded in a strange planet without memory of his past life. He is hold in captivity by a Tryl, a strong and domineering cat man who makes him his sex slave.

In this strange planet couples are made by a master and a slave and Tryl has decided to finally pairs with this blond hair and pink skin man he calls Yai. Yai is tender and cute, he fears everything, but not this big and impressive cat man, who makes love to him so tenderly. And he also takes care of him and he, for the first time, feels like someone loves him.

Yai is very willingly to accept his new state of slave. He likes Tryl and not objects to be his sex toy. He wants to please him, he likes to please others, and the rewards he receives pleasing Tryl is very sweet. Yai is a strange character, I can't understand how old he is, but he looks to be very young and very naive.

Tryl is a very self-conscious man. He has no doubt he will take Yai has slave and that Yai will not deny him. He is a leader and he really thinks that being his slave Yai will have a better quality of live than he has had previosly. If not for the gentle manners he has for Yai, he would be a very irritating character. But he is so gentle and caring with Yai, that you forgive everything to him.

This is a really classical yaoi story. The very elements of the genre are abundantly used in the plot: the cute uke, with watery eyes and shy behaviour, the strong seme, tall and powerful, who pleased his slave but also punished him when necessary, brings pleasure with pain.

Even if pretty short, it is an arousing tale with two complete characters who remind me of an old "bodice-ripper" romance, The Warrior's Woman by Johanna Lindsey.
