5.0 out of 5 stars Revitalizes the series
I have read every one of the books in this series and was beginning to become tired and a bit confused as to where it was going. Nonetheless, I preordered this book as I'd decided to see this alphacat series to its completion. So glad I did as this entry brought the stories of the last few books together to the point that I can hardly wait until the next chapter - will...

3.0 out of 5 stars Where is everyone????
I have to admit, I was disappointed with this book. It seems like most of the major characters were missing. No Matt, no Electra, no Carmen, no Kit. I miss the interaction between Temple and Max. Bring him back. He's the one she belongs with. The only thing that was truly interesting in this book was the last page of the book - to get you waiting for the next book.

Nonetheless, I preordered this book as I'd decided to see this alphacat series to its completion. So glad I did as this entry brought the stories of the last few books together to the point that I can hardly wait until the next chapter - will the series move towards some more concrete verisimilitude? I'm definitely ready!

Excellent entry in the Midnight Louie series. Carole Nelson Douglas has done it again and left me waiting in suspense for the next book, especially with the twist at the end. The only problem is the sleep I lose as I can't put one of her books down until I have read it cover to cover.

5.0 out of 5 stars fresh and amusing, August 7, 2010
This review is from: Cat in an Ultramarine Scheme: A Midnight Louie Mystery (Midnight Louie Mysteries) (Hardcover)
Public relations specialist Temple Barr is setting up a campaign for the Fontana family to take advantage of Las Vegas' mob roots. The "Chunnel of Crime" is a monorail within a museum connecting two hotels. During a promotional event, an underground vault is opened for the first time in years. Temple and her clients hope to find buried gangster loot instead of what was found in Capone's vault. Instead, they find something worse to accentuate the gangster past. Inside is the corpse of former magician Cosimo Sparks. Someone stabbed him and buried him. Temple accompanied by her pet owner Midnight Louie investigates; as does the Fontana family and the police.

At the same time, Temple and Louie make inquiries, her fiancé radio star Matt Devine is in Chicago. Her "dead" ex, magician/counterterrorist Max Kinsella, is in Ireland suffering from amnesia but cared for by Garry "Gandolph the Great" Randolph as he seeks information on the late orphan Kathleen "Kitty the Cutter" O'Connor.

In his twenty-second starring appearance (see Cat in a Topaz Tango), Midnight Louie remains fresh and amusing as if he was working with his human pet on their first case (see 1993's Catnap). The twisting story line is fast-paced as Temple relies on Midnight Louie's posse the Vegas Strip Irregulars to solve the homicides. This is a terrific entry as fans of the series will believe rascally lovable Louie has several lives left.

5.0 out of 5 stars Midnight Madness, January 18, 2012

Louie and the gang are still up to their entertaining shenanigans. Plus, the re-appearance of several characters from many books ago adds some nostaliga.

5.0 out of 5 stars Midnight Louie, December 27, 2011

I love Midnight Louie and this book had his Dad, his Mom, his Daughter and he even met some 1/2 brothers which were fun. The old gangster theme kept my attention and we also find out more about Max and that he is headed back to Vegas. What more would we ask for?

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, September 25, 2010
This review is from: Cat in an Ultramarine Scheme: A Midnight Louie Mystery (Midnight Louie Mysteries) (Hardcover)
After reading the last book, I eagerly awaited the next episode of Midnight Louie. This book was rambling boring excuse of a book. Many interesting things could happened in this book. Midnight Louie and his prodigy interacting more would have more interesting. The book never mentions what happened to Louise at the Neon Nightmare. Temple could have gone to visit Matt's family and that would have been interesting. I feel like Carole Nelson Douglas has run out of ideas and just wants to end the series quickly. Max will come back remember Temple and Matt will move to Chicago. The rest of story will remain lose ends. Carole Nelson Douglas will write other novels.

Louie sure has his paws full dealing with one older, and one younger, member of his family... What a bunch! Reminds me of our 5 indoor cats... One of which is named Midnight Louie... The only name he would answer to!
