About the Author

Cat in a White Tie and Tails is the twenty-fourth title in CAROLE NELSON DOUGLAS’s sassy Midnight Louie mystery series. Previous titles include Cat in a Vegas Gold Vendetta, Cat in an Ultramarine Scheme, and Cat in a Topaz Tango. In addition to tales of her favorite feline, Douglas is also the author of a historical suspense series featuring Irene Adler, the only woman ever to have “outwitted” Sherlock Holmes. Douglas resides in Fort Worth, Texas.

More About the Author

Award-winning ex-journalist and novelist Carole Nelson Douglas has written sixty novels ranging from historical and contemporary mystery and romance to science fiction thrillers to high and urban fantasy. No wonder her home office is a Twilight Zone landscape of mannequins in vintage dress.

She's a four-time Rita Award finalist and has RT Reviews Magazine lifetime achievement awards in Suspense, Mystery and as a Pioneer of Publishing. Currently, she writes two popular Las Vegas-set series: the Midnight Louie, feline PI, mysteries partially narrated by a "Sam Spade with hairballs" and the Delilah Street, Paranormal Investigator, noir urban fantasies of werewolf mobsters and Silver Screen zombies in a paranormal Sin City.

Douglas was the first author of a Sherlockian series with a female protagonist, diva-detective Irene Alder, the only woman to outwit Holmes, debuting with the New York Times Notable Book of the Year, Good Night, Mr. Holmes. Douglas says if she has a literary muse, it's definitely feline: mysterious, wise, playful, and packing sharp shivs in velvet gloves.

Once again, Ms. Douglas offers a highly entertaining and fun mystery! I love her books because her characters quickly become old friends who I revisit again and again. I own all of her series, and Irene Adler and Midnight Louie I have bought in hardback after wearing out too many copies of the paperback. They are the first books I loaded on both my Kindle and my Sony Reader. If you haven't read them, ya gotta do it! You'll totally be hooked!

I'm a long time reader of this series, having bought the books all the way back to the letter B. I bought this one on its release day, which is now 4 weeks ago. I haven't been able to get further than about half way through. I do promise to re-do the review if and when I do get to the end... but so far I judge it to be one tremendous filler. Nothing much happens. Nothing that happened in Chicago was very interesting or engaging and that whole subplot seemed like a waste of space. Matt's family seems irritating and useless and we as readers couldn't care less about any of them or their problems. If Effinger is alive again, that would be a bad thing. If Kitty the Cutter is alive again, THAT would be VERY a bad thing, I for one was extremely grateful the author killed her off 8 books ago, why go back now? I guess it's possible that in the second half something will happen to engage me, but so far -and it is fully half the book - I'm concluding the author either has nothing left to do with these characters or is stretching whatever she does have left just to artificially get to Z. Sigh. I used to enjoy this series so much...

I love all the Midnight Louie books; I am a big fan of CND's Midnight Louie and Irene Adler books. However, I was slightly disappointed in this book...yes, it continues the story, and still leaves us in suspense. But I'm beginning to think that the whole story is just getting very drawn out. Nonetheless, I still feel conflicted over whether Temple should be with Matt or Max. I hate that Max is on the outs....I wish that CND would find some way to finish up the series so that Temple, Matt and Max can all have some kind of "happily ever after". I guess I'm getting a bit tired of the drawn out love triangle. I do like that other peripheral characters, such as Matt's Mom, are finding a Happily ever-after. I want more ML books! I want more Irene Adler books!! I want some happy endings!

I love all of the Midnight Louie books so far. Can't say which ones my favorit till the all come out. What I can say is that Carole has left me hanging on the edge of my seat for the next book to come out. What a cliff hanging ending to this one. It's going to be a painful wait to see how this turn of events turns out. I will hate to see this seires end I wish there where more letters in the alphabet. Maybe she'll start with the numbers next.

The cats and their pets have intrigued me yet again. I can't wait for Matt and Temple to be married and start their own P.I. Firm along with Louie & Company. Can't wait for the next installment.

This is the latest book in the Midnight Louie series from Carole Nelson Douglas, and, as I've come to expect, it is another GREAT read! As in all of her books, all of the main characters are very likable and easy to relate to. And Midnight Louie is as astute as any cat on this planet (although they usually don't explain things like he does). The only confusing parts involve one 'dead' evil doer....is she dead or not. It seems like she definitely IS until she MAY be appearing again. To understand, you'll have to read the book. Better yet, to fall in love with all of the characters, read ALL of the Midnight Louie series....from "Catnap" through this one....as the saying goes "You'll be GLAD you did!"
