Catalog of Traverls Rest Arabian Horses, by Gen. Jacob McGavock Dickinson. About the author and his exceptional composition, breed authority Gladys Brown Edwards wrote: "His yearly catalogues wereŻandŻare of great value to those who want to get down to the bare facts and to heck with the fluffy fantasies and romance (another word for congealed fibs, or tall tales which have been transferred from legend to `fact'). The businesslike, almost computerized, system of sorting out these facts is unequalled. The list of horses, together with their breeding, breeder, age, color, strain and history in a concisely composed list is worth the value of these collectors' items." Few who have benefited from the wisdom of the man who was arguably America's greatest early breeder would disagree. First published on an annual basis beginning in 1939 with 166 pages and a wealth of black & white photographs, the paperback catalogues have long been hoarded by those lucky enough to find one.
