Great CD front to back,

I bought this CD before a camping trip this summer. The only song I had heard before ordering was "Pasadena" (A great song). Needless to say, the CD was amazing front to back. My girlfriend and I must of listened to it 20 times on our vacation. I recomend this to anybody who thinks they have a good sense of whats good music. These guys are independant musicians also, not owned by some huge label. Help support these guys, buy their music.

This is a very impressive album from a very promising Athens-based band. Great songs with catchy melodies and each band member has impressive chops. Standout tracks include "New York Song," "Seventeen Dirty Magazines," "My Bully," and "My Lost Soprano." Watch out for this band, they are gonna be huge.

A Little Disappointing,

"My Lost Soprano" is a terrific song, that I first heard on Pandora. I bought the album soon there after... but that song is really one of a kind on this album. The rest of the music is alright, but not great. Lyrics are often difficult to understand (both because the enunciation isn't great, and they don't seem to make a lot of sense), and kinda goofy.
Not the best album I've ever purchased... I can't listen to it comfortably, but (aside from "My Lost Soprano") there's not much to talk about.

Viva la Athens,

With the release of this album in August of 2005 and subsequent coverage in Paste Magazine in January of the next year, Modern Skirts established a solid footprint in the Athens music scene. Anyone who I've talked to about music since then knows how I feel about this disc.
Modern Skirts have brought new life and interest into a music scene that once spawned the likes of the B-52s, Indigo Girls, and, of course, REM. Their piano and guitar driven indie-pop bring to mind the works of They Might Be Giants and Ben Folds, although by the end of the disc you could swear that you can hear Michael Stipe in that mix of harmonies somewhere. Throughout the disc, the Skirts' instrumental prowess blends flawlessly with lyrics that are at the same time playful and poignant. If you get the chance to see them live, you'll see the Skirts put even more energy into these songs. The Skirts' have done their part to revive the Athens music scene, and with other bands like Venice Is Sinking and others popping up at the same time, the revival may be just as momentous as the original Athens scene.
