The first time I used this, the oil I used burned and the butter on top burned black. The second time I used it I didn't use any oils or butter and that worked a lot better. After the second use it broke while I was washing it. I was holding it by its handle and attempting to wipe it on the inside. The handle broke off leaving and a hole in the bowl and a deep gash in my finger.

I love my Catamount popcorn popper. I used a piece of parchment paper, with holes in it, as a lid. That way air escapes and moisture doesn't get trapped inside the popped corn. I microwave white corn, dry, no oil added in the cooking process. You have to keep an eye on it until you figure out how long it takes to cook in your own particular microwave. After it cooked, I pour it in a big bowl and then add melted butter (and Tobasco sauce- yum). So much better than pre-packaged junk and much much less expensive. Must be careful, it is glass.

I have one of these, and have had no problems using it.
1) I was under the impression you would not put any butter or oils on top until after done or close to it. Given it takes 3-4 minutes to make popcorn, any butter oils would probably heat up enough to almost catch fire and make a mess in the microwave.
I could not believe a reviewer actually put a small amount of oil in a microwave for 3-4 minutes.
Personally, I prefer less oil on popcorn less fattening, that is why I am not using premade popcorn junk

2) Note the handle is not that strong, so I would never hold by handle to wash.

As usual, common sense yields better results.
