The game includes tiles to make larger versions of the scenario in the 3-4 player Seafares expansion. In order to use this product, you must also need the basic Settlers of Catan board game, the basic Settler 5-6 player expansion, and Seafares 3-4 for players. While is does require you to buy four items all together, the game is well worth it!

In order to use this game you need to have the original Catan, Catan extension pack, Seafarers add on and now this. It gets pretty expensive and confusing to keep track of all of the extension packs but if you have more than 4 in your family you need to commit to doing it. It is definitely worth it. After the learning curve of the first time you read the instructions and set it up (prepare for a good hour to get it right the first time) you will quickly be able to switch between the different versions and options and enjoy them all. Particularly like the way the rules for the 5-6 player incorporate the need for some variations that get the game moving faster and more fairly. This is the most tailor made game I've ever played. Every time I play, it is different.

Before you purchase any of the Settlers of Catan board games, know the difference between "Expansion" and "Extension." Keep in mind that you cannot play the extension without the expansion.

I absolutely love settlers, and my wife and I play with friends about once or twice a week. We only had the basic game for a long time, but we finally bit the bullet and bought seafarers, and are so glad that we did. Seafarers adds boats (which tend to make sheep more valuable as opposed to practically worthless in the basic game). We love having more variety of games, and play all the scenarios. Buy it, having more things to explore is a great deal of fun.

My gaming group after playing 40-50 games of the basic Catan added Fishermen which was great. Then we added Rivers (gold) and found that to work better when playing with 5-6 players rather than 4. Now we are working are way through Seafarers. Some of the biggest differences are 3 Victory Points for a first village on a new island. So lead swings happen often. And using the robber to stop island expansions is another nice varible.
Seafarers adds a whole new level of tactics to the game and we like it.
On the downside, there is still trouble getting the tiles to fit properly and remain in place during the game.
I would sum it all up by saying, "If you like what the 5-6 player expansion did for the Catan basic game, then you'll like what this 5-6 player expansion does for seafarers." Best price I've found for this (new) is $16

There are four Catan products that are fundamental for the most flexible gaming experiences - Basic & Seafarers, and the 5-6 player expansions for each. With these four sets, you can play hundreds of different games - well maybe not hundreds but it seems like dozens. We often use the expanded pieces for 4 players. Catan is truly the best game ever.

I bought Catan about a month and a half ago and I am hooked. I have a big family so when I decided get Seafarers to add another depth to the game I picked up the 5 and 6 Player expansion pack as well. 5 Stars

A fun and interesting addition to Settlers of Catan. I think this expansion pack is far better than some of the other expansion packs (such as Cities & Knights). It gives opportunity for several players to interact and the element of ships add a new dimension. In addition, there are a variety of ways to win the game, which keeps every game a guess.
The addition of "gold" - meaning if you settle there you can take whatever resource you want - is quite the advantage but still overcome by skill of the other players. For this reason this expansion pack might encourage targeting of certain players more so than other expansion packs.

This expansion pack is not too easy and not too difficult - perfect for a mixed or an advanced crowd. For a group just learning Settlers, I would recommend learning the basic game first.

The actual materials appear to be well-made and durable, although some of the smaller pieces are almost too small and could be easily lost. When you put the "sea" together it can be hard to tell where the hexagonal tiles meet and thus where it is acceptable to place the ships - if they were outlined in black that would be better.

Overall, a delightfully fun and interesting game that is not terribly difficult to learn, intriguing enough to play again and again, with quality materials.
