More About the Author

Uday Devgan, MD, FACS is known as The Doctors' Doctor for Ocular Surgery

When other eye doctors or their families require vision correction surgery, they turn to Uday Devgan MD.

"The biggest honor that I receive is when fellow eye surgeons ask me to operate on their family members and on their own eyes. I perform each surgery with the same high level of skill, judgment, and expertise that I would use to do surgery on my own family. I truly take pride and passion in every delicate surgery that I do, because my work has the ability to greatly improve our most precious sense, our sight. A truly superb ocular surgery is a delicate balance of science, engineering, and artistry which results in the gift of great sight for a lifetime." - Uday Devgan MD

Uday Devgan, MD, FACS is an international expert in ocular surgery, with a special interest in cataract, refractive lens implant, and LASIK surgery. Dr. Devgan is both in private practice, where he specializes in the full spectrum of vision surgery, as well as in academic medicine as Associate Clinical Professor at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the UCLA School of Medicine.

Dr. Devgan has operated a highly successful cataract and refractive lens practice for the past 10 years in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, California. His expertise in the areas of cataract removal, refractive lens exchange, and accommodating / multi-focal lenses provides patients with more surgical options.

After graduating as valedictorian of Santa Monica High School, Dr. Devgan accepted multiple scholarships to UCLA where he majored in microbiology and molecular genetics. He earned his M.D. with Highest Distinction at the top of his class at the USC School of Medicine where he was co-president of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He trained at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, where he won awards for outstanding achievement as well as research.

He has personally taught surgery to every UCLA ophthalmology resident surgeon for the past decade in his position at Chief of Ophthalmology at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Devgan is the only faculty member to have won the annual UCLA teaching award twice, and annually he awards the best UCLA resident ophthalmologist with the Devgan Award for Surgical Excellence.

Dr. Devgan sums up his surgery philosophy when he states, "I give every patient the same level of care, detail, and surgical excellence as I would give to my own family." Perhaps that's why so many other surgeons have chosen Dr. Devgan for surgery on their eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book literally saved my vision. Thank you!, September 21, 2009
This review is from: Cataract Surgery: A Patient's Guide to Cataract Treatment (Paperback)
I have always had vision in one eye only because I was born with a lazy eye. When I developed a cataract in my only eye due to chemotherapy and steroids (i have end stage cancer) I was very concerned. One of my lungs is completely gone because of the cancer and the other lung is 3/4 full of cancer fluid. I'm on oxygen 24/7 but still have very low oxygen level in the blood. You see, all of these complications that I have make me a very high risk patient for cataract surgery. I was going blind and most eye surgeons didn't want to touch me. I want to enjoy and live my life, even if I have just a few months left. Life has been very painful with having cancer and being blind would kill me much sooner. I purchased this book and it gave me great knowledge about the eye condition I had developed. It was worth it for me to have my family drive me 2 hours to see Dr. Devgan. If I hadn't read this wonderful book, I might not have found the true expert in cataract surgery. Dr. Devgan saved my vision, and gave me a reason to enjoy life.

This book is a must read for anyone considering cataract surgery. The book is simple and easy to read and can be read cover to cover in about an hour. I learned so much and I'm so glad. I opted to get the very best lens implanted in my eye and it has given me back my youthful vision. I recommend this book to anyone who has been diagnosed with cataracts or is considering cataract surgery.

This review is from: Cataract Surgery: A Patient's Guide to Cataract Treatment (Paperback)
The easy to read guide lets a prospective patient for cataract surgery learn what to expect from the process. It is a reassuring guide for those who might be anxious about any surgery in general and eye surgery in particular. The illustrations give useful information and the writing is easy to understand. Recommended for anyone who is considering this operation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good guide for cataract patients, February 23, 2010

This review is from: Cataract Surgery: A Patient's Guide to Cataract Treatment (Paperback)
I read this book before going to see Dr. Devgan about my cataracts. It was informative and helped define terms that one needs to know in order to have a good conversation with their doctor about their eyes, and understand the pending surgery.
