WHY must we study topology? Want to know? Read this book!, April 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Catastrophe Theory and Its Applications (Dover Books on Mathematics) (Paperback)
This book gives many informations of applications of Topology. With their illustrations give us the more intuition and help us for more understanding with a situation in the reality life. AT First half of book, we can remember the theories of Calculus, Transversality and Stability and then brings us to how we can see the application these theories in our life, examples, in the domain of biology, physics, ecology and social. I think it's a good book for a student who works not only,in Differential Topology , for seing their applications and give an idea how we can apply the theory what we studied, but for the post graduates students in enginneering, physics and biology also.

Excellent and clear explanation of catastrophe theory, July 7, 2010
This review is from: Catastrophe Theory and Its Applications (Dover Books on Mathematics) (Paperback)
Catastrophe theory enjoyed a brief and tumultuous period of fame during the seventies. Some unreasonable claims on the powers of this theory, like it would be the "theory that explains everything", lead many people to disregard it. However, as a mathematical formalism to study discontinuous changes of continuous functions, this theory still has the potential of giving insights into physical problems and even to be applicable. The authors of this book, written during the tumultuous period of the seventies, are understandably enthusiastic about the theory and clearly gave us good and pedagogical explanations. Highly recommendable.
