5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and affordable account of catastrophe theory, July 7, 2010
This review is from: Catastrophe Theory for Scientists and Engineers (Paperback)
Catastrophe theory enjoyed a brief and tumultuous period of fame during the seventies. The theory was later disregarded due to exaggerated claims on what it could be applied for. However, as a mathematical formalism to study discontinuous changes of continuous functions, catastrophe theory still has the potential of giving insights into physical problems. This book is an excellent an affordable account of catastrophe theory, with good examples and clear exposition. It is also more recent than Poston & Stewart's and is still in print by Dover. I warmly recommend it.
