3.0 out of 5 stars Deconstruction of the Superman
Bob Frey's "Catawampus Tales" is an easy and entertaining take on the deconstruction of the superhero in society, the Supermale in particular. Tongue-in-cheek and a quick read, this humorous take examines how men's roles have changed, their maleness and manliness constantly being attacked by the powers that be. This is a fun read with an underlying message that's serious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deliciously Eclectic, August 9, 2011
This review is from: Catawampus Tales (Paperback)
Known for his satirical style, Bob Frey does not disappoint in "Catawampus Tales," a collection of short stories that range from humorous to outrageous, and can be categorized as "deliciously eclectic." Just when you feel like you know what's going to happen next, Frey jolts you with a twist. The arrangement of short stories is such that they bounce from science fiction to a romantic fantasy, and everything in between--there's definitely something for the avid and casual reader. The memorable stories of the collection are "Zombie Fight Song," and "Supermale's Gone and Left Us." Simply put, if you like books where the flow is nearly impeccable, easy to read--without losing any of the substance--and a sense of humor, this is it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly fun and precient sci-fi read, June 17, 2011

This review is from: Catawampus Tales (Paperback)
Bob Frey's "Catawampus Tales" is an engaging series of short stories, part science fiction, a lot humorous, and also a deconstruction of the super hero and his fit in today's society. It's a very interesting idea and clever. I'm not a huge sci-fi reader, but the humor accompanied with the layers of the stories - from human-like zombies to a superhero who is cuffed by immigration - are great. It's fun, absurd, and real all at the same time. Well worth a fun, quick, and uniquely enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creative and Downright Entertaining!, June 14, 2011
This review is from: Catawampus Tales (Paperback)
Catawampus, meaning askew or awry, was exactly what Bob Frey intended this book to be. Comprised of short stories that are both creative and downright entertaining, Frey commands the reader's attention with Catawampus Tales.

How would the world really react to a superhero? What does it take to fight a zombie? How real can the imagination seem to some? All these questions, and more, are answered throughout the nine short stories that comprise this book.

With humor and imagination, Catawampus Tales is an excellent read. With a writing style that is fully captivating, Bob Frey provides his readers with a book that will be talked about for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever!, June 14, 2011
This review is from: Catawampus Tales (Paperback)
Filled with fascinating tales and plenty of humor, Catawampus Tales is absolutely clever. When reading we want to escape from life and delve into a book and this book helps the reader do that perfectly. The unimaginable happens, even in some of the most relate-able (at times) situations. This book is sheer fun. Part science fiction, part (adult) humor and pure entertainment.

This review is from: Catawampus Tales (Paperback)
Catawapus Tales by Bob Frey is one of the great books. It is very interesting book. Most thing I likes about this book is short stories. Sometime we got bored with one story line with same style in the entire book, but this book is truly gives you little of everything. I really enjoyed reading this book and I will recommend other people to read it I am sure won't disappoint. It is one of the great books now for me. !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Imaginative and Unpredictable, June 12, 2011
By
This review is from: Catawampus Tales (Paperback)
Catawampus Tales is very entertaining, and includes a nice variety of genres. Reading through some of the stories, I thought to myself on several occasions, "This is so ridiculous I could definitely see it happening in real life." Stories are great when they're so fantastically impossible you wish they could happen and when you can totally relate them to life. You get both here. Bob Frey's tales are imaginative and unpredictable, but at the same time completely reflect the status of the world today.
