Editorial Reviews

“Anytime a novel makes me tear up, laugh out loud, or put my hand against my chest because the romance is just that good, I tend to give it a big thumb’s up. Catch a Falling Star had me doing all three! It pulled me in, kept me reading well past my bedtime, and left me eager for more from this talented author. Beth Vogt knocked this one out of the park!” (Katie Ganshert, author of Wildflowers from Winterand Wishing on Willows)

“Beth Vogt has once again captured my complete attention. With a slightly different feel to her debut, Wish You Were Here, Vogt's latest, Catch a Falling Star, is rich with true-to-life characters who sitdown beside you and invite you into their lives. The story unfolds with humor, tenderness, and a few poignant moments that will have you savoring eachwell-written word. Vogt points the way toward grace, healing, and hope withoutpreaching, but presents an honest portrayal of real lived-out faith and how itcan impact lives. Another wonderful offering by this very talented author!” (Catherine West, award-winning author of Yesterday's Tomorrow and Hidden in the Heart)

Catch a Falling Star is one of those books you keep thinking about after The End. Poignant characters, crackling dialogue, and a central theme we can all connect with: What happens when things don't go according to plan? Beth K. Vogt writes from the heart with such an engaging voice . . . and she definitely has a permanent place on my must-read shelf!” (Melissa Tagg, author of Made to Last (Bethany House, Fall 2013))

"Beth K. Vogt has accomplished what all debut authors aspire to do—write a great second book. Catch a Falling Star is fun, quirky, and filled with Vogt's well-crafted prose and signature voice. What a great thing—to discover a new author for my favorites list." (Rachel Hauck, award-winning author of The Wedding Dress and Once Upon a Prince)

“This is one of those kind of books: the kind you open thinking you’ll just read a chapter or two and then, before you know it, you’re turning the last page with a smile and sigh. I don’t know how she does it, but Beth’s characters seem to live and breathe. I closed the cover after reading the last page and found myself a little bit sad, wondering where all my new friends had gone.” (Siri Mitchell, author of The Cubicle Next Door and Unrivaled)

“After reading Beth Vogt’s debut novel, Wish You Were Here, I knew her books would have a permanent place on my bookshelf. Catch a Falling Star is laced with Beth’s signature humor, well-developed characters, and spiritual truth, but her writing maturity shines. Her stellar ability to craft soul-stirring happily-ever-after romances leaves me craving more of her books. She does what every author desires—keeping readers turning pages way past their bedtimes.” (Lisa Jordan, award-winning author of Lakeside Reunion and Lakeside Family)

Catch a Falling Star, Beth Vogt’s sophomore novel, delights with an intriguing cast of characters, a page-turning plot, unexpected twists, and sharp writing. I loved this tender story framed in second chances and heartfelt dreams that proves fairy tale lives come in all shapes and sizes.” (Megan DiMaria, author of Searching for Spice and Out of Her Hands)

"I couldn’t put the novel down. Could. Not. . . . Beth Vogt has hit her sweet spot. Talk about a great story! . . . Snappy, quick and perfect for every single moment. . . . Themes are clearly evident and excellently woven through the story. Descriptions take you right into the heart of the story while not distracting anything from it. I have a feeling THIS is the voice people are going to love discovering on book shelves." (

“Beth Vogt is a rising romance star with this amazing second novel. Delightful, sparkling romance and a story that is sure to keep you up all night. Bravo!” (Susan May Warren, best-selling, award-winning author of Take a Chance on Me)

"Catch a Falling Star by Beth K. Vogt is a story for every woman who has ever wondered if her “prince” will arrive. This novel is so much more than just a romance. It’s a story about learning to be happy and to rely on God even when life doesn’t go according to our plans. . . . Vogt has a way of conveying deep and poignant truths in a light and easy way to digest. . . . I definitely recommend Catch a Falling Star to romance fans looking for more than just another happily-ever-after. The ending won’t disappoint, but the journey there is filled with valuable lessons. The sweet tale serves to help the medicine go down easier. Through the characters, readers learn the importance of being content wherever they are in life and understanding God’s plans are higher than ours. It’s a book you won’t be able to put down!" (

More About the Author

Novelist Beth K. Vogt is a nonfiction author and editor who said she'd never write fiction. I highly recommend Catch a Falling Star. I know you'll love it, too. Here are some things you're sure to appreciate about this heartwarming story:

The unique, multi-talented heroine: Kendall Haynes is a smart, feisty family practice physician, who can tirelessly treat kids all day and rebuild a jeep in her spare time. She's the type who interrupts her dinner when she notices that a nearby teen appears ill, saves his life, and then casually returns to chat with her friends. Kendall knows what to prescribe for other people's lives, but she doesn't quite know how to fix what's missing in her own. I was rooting for her after that first phone call from her selfish sister.

The trying-to-do-the-right-thing hero: My heart went out to Griffin Walker, an Air Force pilot who suffers from Vertigo--a fitting metaphor for a man whose life has been turned upside down. After the loss of his parents, Griffin gets thrown into the role of guardian to the hurting teenage brother he hardly knows. His first marriage failed, and now even his career is on hold. The storms of life have swamped poor Griffin. At first, he doesn't know which way is up. Watching him find his way was sweet and satisfying.

The Love-Is-Lovelier-the-Second-Time-Around aspect: Kendall and Griffin are nearing forty with failed relationships behind them when God brings them together. And that beautiful second chance, as the song says, "Makes you think perhaps that love like youth is wasted on the young."

The story behind the story: Beth dedicated the book to a teen named Ian Lyons, a friend's son who suffered through cancer and died in 2009. This story is a fitting tribute to a young person who faced life's toughest challenges with faith and courage.

After reading Wish You Were Here by Beth Vogt, I was really excited about reading Catch A Falling Star, and I am very happy I had the opportunity to read this book! I enjoyed is so much because it is a really good, light, refreshing read. With characters that are going through the things that people go through everyday, I liked the way Ms Vogt weaved the characters living for God in their everyday lives. Griffin has so much baggage that he doesn't feel worthy of taking care of his brother, nor does he feel worthy of Dr. Kendall Haynes, making his life miserable. But he was miserable because of bad choices he made years earlier. But can he overcome these problems and live a happy life?
I highly recommend Catch a Falling Star to you if you for a nice summer read! I promise you will be delightfully entertained!

A book that is so much deeper than it appears at first glance.

Kendall and Griffin learn to trust their futures to God, and handle life's twists.

I absolutely loved this book! It had such amazing depth, and lessons that can touch anybody from the new believer to the lifetime Christ follower. The story was so well told and the characters were so well developed, and their interactions were so meaningful and made the relationships grow naturally and realistically. There was just so much to love about this book, on top of a stellar storyline all of which made this book more than enjoyable.

One of the absolute best things about this book were the lessons it taught, about life, living, and love.

There was an amazing side story about Evie, her husband, their adopted son, there was enough depth heart in just that story alone to write a whole book! I absolutely loved it.

Overall, this book was just amazing. It totally blew me away! Everything was so well done from the plot, to the characters, to the faith elements and life lessons, to just how wonderful Ms. Vogt is at connecting with her readers. There was so much goodness packed into such a normal sized book, plus there was a whole other storyline that I didn't even mention! Everything just fit together so well, one of the best books I have read this year! 5 stars all the way.

I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

Beth K. Vogt's second novel, "Catch a Falling Star", left me feeling I had caught one. Her book sparkles and shines with lively dialogue, warm humor, hope, and a stellar romance. I closed the book content that two of my very good friends, Kendall and Griffin, finally found each other. Read it in one sitting. Vogt's smooth prose will have you saying, "Whoa--what time is it?"

I received a complimentary copy, but liked the book so well, I ordered a copy to share with friends.

Catch A Falling Star was one of those books that I found hard to put down. I would intend to read only a chapter or two and ended up reading five or six, even ten. What is a girl to do when the story has her so engrossed?

I immediately liked the characters who tugged me into the story from the beginning. Dr. Kendall Haynes and grounded Air Force pilot Lieutenant Colonel Griffin Walker get off to a rocky start, and that's the start of an engaging tale of two independent people who the reader recognizes that they are meant to be together, but they themselves are doing everything they can to stay out of each others way.

Kendall, who is 36, treasured the fairy tales her Mina told her as a little girl, and had kept herself pure for her "prince". She even is keeping her Mina's ring hoping that one day she will marry, but she is left to wonder if her fairy tale will ever come true. Griffin, who is 38, has loved and lost, so he threw his energy into being an Air Force pilot, but he has been grounded by the medical team. Now he is doing everything he can to be able to fly again. Watching these two people who seem to have it all by those who are looking in from the outside find the love they long for is heartwarming.

The characters in Catch a Falling Star aren't perfect; they have issues to overcome and lessons to learn. Griffin is facing lifelong consequences for some choices he made early in his life before he became a believer, choices that he regrets. Kendall wants to have it all (career, marriage, and kids) but she is willing to settle for less than God's best rather than continuing to wait and trust Him to lead her to the man he has for her.

I enjoyed watching Kendall and Griffin grow and change as they faced challenges that were set before them.
