"Catch & Hold, Five Keys to Strength, Success, and Secure Happiness" is a powerful motivational book. According to ESPN, Tyrone Prothro made the greatest catch in the history of college football. Two weeks after making the catch, he was forced out of the game by an extreme leg injury, but now, just after graduating college, he is back in football coaching the (at this time) 8-0 Birmingham Wildfire semipro football team. Tyrone's ability to come back again and again and again, no matter what the circumstance is amazing, and so this book is very inspiring-- with photos from a number of sports and motivational text, it's a must-read, not just for Alabama football fans but for anyone looking for inspiration and motivation.
I'm a big fan of Tyrone Protho. I knew of his tragic story from watching Alabama football over the years, so I was quite interested to learn more about his life and how he overcame adversity. Unfortunately, this book was a huge disappointment.
I read this book in literally 10 minutes. Most of the 100 pages are filled with white space and extremely poor quality generic sports images (e.g. surfer on a wave, soccer goalie catching a ball, row team, etc.). It looks and reads like a high school motivational PowerPoint presentation with speaker notes.
I was really hoping the book would share more on Tyrone's life, how he came to become a star athlete at Alabama, his tragic injury, and how he coped with life after football. There was very little of this. Instead, we are given such motivational thoughts as "There are many songs celebrating jumping. There is Van Halen's Jump, Kriss Kross's Jump Jump, and House of Pain's Jump Around. If you want to live, truly live, you've got to jump." Really? That is the entire page 62 from the book. Page 63 is a washed-out, black and white photo of a snowboarder.
I live right here in Alabama, and although I am not a native of this state, I am very proud when either teams(Alabama and Auburn that is) do well on the field. I was quite proud when they won this year but other than that, that's it. It was very interesting to read this book by this young man. sometimes we all need some encouragement something to help us "make it through the night" or them hard times that we tend to have, so to speak. Mr Prothro is offering that with his book. yes, I am curious to learn more about his life. Yes, I would like to have read on that, but for this venture, he is just here to encourage and I have enormous respect for the brother. big ups and kudos on your book.
This book is a well written example of faith, family and football. Tyrone pulls from his own experiences in life and football to break down the key essentials to living life to the fullest. A must read for any person struggling or discouraged in their circumstances. A great read for every sports fan who witnessed or at least saw the replays of "The Catch." The way he breaks down the relationship of that remarkable play and sports in general with living life to the fullest is truly an inspiration. To quote from the book, "Hesitation and indecision steal time, and to lose time is to lose life." Get your copy today! Really it's worth the read!
