This is a really good book, well written and told in a very readable style. Kimball tells his personal story from his early days as a street deputy to commanding a Sherriff's Department helicopter. A great read for both law enforcement officers and pilots alike.

I really enjoy books that describe someone's interesting profession, warts and all. This book kept me deeply absorbed. When it ended, I wanted more. I highly recommend this well-written book to everyone with even a casual interest in law enforcement and/or aviation.

I started with a Sheriff's office air support unit last Fall (2011). So much of this book and Daryl's activities just resonated with me. I could see some of his experiences waiting for me, some I already had in the air and on the ground. Great book. Thanks for sharing and no doubt encouraging future air support officers.

The interesting thing about this book is that I knew some of the characters. Having spent 32 years in law enforcement, I could relate to alot of Darryl's commentary. I have been in the pursuits and the foot chases with ASTREA overhead assisting. In one case I was watching a house while units gathered to arrest a murder suspect. ASTREA came overhead. The suspect came out to look at the helicopter. I walked up, unheard, and placed him under arrest. I loved that Darryl shared the good and the bad in his quest to become a fully certified ASTREA pilot. You too will get the feel that you are there in the seat as he learns, chases the bad guys and makes rescues. I highly recommend the book.
