5.0 out of 5 stars Thinking of a dog for your child? This is must read! September 6, 2011
Format:Paperback
I read this book with my 4 year old child. He has autism and we own an adopted black lab. He has learned how important it is to be responsible for a dog. This is his review for the book:
"I really like the dog book. I really like the picture when the collie was excited to get a forever home. I learned a lot about dogs. I have a black dog we adopted. Her name is KC. I learned black dogs are least likely to find a home. That makes me sad. I love KC. She is the best black dog ever. I don't know why people don't like black dogs. I know dogs need food and water like I do. I know they like to play, (me too). I learned how important it is for them to have exercise. I also learned they are sad if they are alone. I was sad for Raja when he ran away to find Marcie. I was worried he wouldn't find his way home. It was good he had his tag with his address. Adopting a dog is a big deal but this book helps you know everything to do. You should buy this book if you are going to adopt a dog. And if you can pick a black dog. They are really fun! They will lick you a lot because they are happy dogs."

I love this book. It is an awesome book to teach kids responsibility for their dog. The story was fun to read and the pictures are fabulous. The information in the book is exactly what people need to know when thinking of adopting or buying a dog.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book September 12, 2011
By KellCat
Format:Paperback
This book is a great learning lesson on how to become a responsible pet owner. It is easy to read, therefore making it a wonderful book for kids. The illustrations are beautiful--if you are from the Savannah area, you'll be delighted at the landmarks in the background. For me personally, I love the story because the family in it is a normal family--they make mistakes, many, and LEARN from them. They don't give up or return the dog at the first issue that needs to be met. The family fills each need the dog has, and in turn, becomes a responsible family for not just one, but 2 dogs. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars My 7 year old daughters favorite book! September 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
My daughter is 7 years old. She got this book in the mail, grabbed it from me and read it right away. She talks about it all the time and put it as her favorite book in her "About Me" paper in school. I love this book because it teaches children how to take care of not just dogs but really all pets. It also teaches them to not give up when you make a mistake but to learn. I love how they make mistakes but don't take the dog back. My daughter wants a dog, as we only have a cat now. I loved showing her this book and her reading what it takes to take care of a dog.

My daughter says "I love the pictures. I love the stories of the dogs adventures. I like how the dog wants to find his best friend. I liked learning (in the back of the book) what you need to take care of a dog. It is my favorite book".

This is a must read for all children. So delightful and cute and teaches at the same time!
