Grade 3-5-- Four series entries that are simply written, reasonably accurate, and lavishly illustrated with fine full-color photos. Mating is mentioned but left largely to readers' imaginations. Catch Me If You Can briefly introduces an assortment of typical and atypical lizard lifestyles and behaviors. Oddly enough, chameleons are ignored, even in a discussion of color changes and camouflage. Roaring Reptiles might well be subtitled About Alligators because gavials and caimans get extremely short shrift, and crocodiles (except for the American species) get little more. The caiman pet trade mentioned is strictly illegal, and despite the photo caption, alligators mate in the water. Slinky Snakes offers an extremely abbreviated overview. Locomotion and skin-molting are given more space than almost anything else, and many will wish the author had neglected to state that ``snake'' is ``a word that can mean sneak.'' What's Under That Shell? looks at the lifestyles of a few turtles, land tortoises, and marine species. However, there are some generalities without explanations. Generally, all of the information in these pretty little packages is readily available in other books.
