Lively and loving look at marriage,
By john c purdy (Santa Fe, NM United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Catching On: Love with an Avid Fly Fisher (Paperback)
I thought this was a delightful insight into a marriage: How Carol learned to put up with a husband (her third!) who was a minister, a psycho-therapist, and an avid fly fisher. That's a potent combination of committements--in addition to a committment to marriage. Well written, especially the descriptions of trout fishing. I am a trout fisherman.

A joyous journey,
By Jane A. Kirkpatrick (Moro, Oregon USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Catching On: Love with an Avid Fly Fisher (Paperback)
I found myself inside Carol Morrison's Catching On. Carol is a fine and perceptive story-teller, a blend of Kathleen Norris and Erma Bombeck. Few books lend themselves to being read out loud, even fewer have the depth, wisdom and wit of this woman's so you want to. I read it out loud to my husband cherishing many moments with someone who is learning who they are while loving a soul so different and yet so similiar to themselves. We've been there, discovering we can do more than we thought and that in the process we're gifted with treasures we otherwise might have missed. Catching On is one of those treasures. Don't miss it. Well done.

A Must,
By "susi17" (Bothell, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Catching On: Love with an Avid Fly Fisher (Paperback)
This was a terrible book to bring on vacation. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. This was my first family visit in three years and I didn't want to seem antisocial or immpolite! Ms. Morrison's vignettes were vivid, humorous, insightful, and often bittersweet. Life's serendipiditious moments are captured and clarified in a way that honors humanity - humbled or exalted but always human. It is also a unique glimpse on marriage from a marriage counselor. Her rich ancedotes on fly fishing alone would make this book worth reading yet it provides much much more. Definitely A MUST. I plan to give this book as a gift to many friends since it is perfect for a man or woman, young or old. I just loved it!!

Read and re-read this one!,
This review is from: Catching On: Love with an Avid Fly Fisher (Paperback)
Catching On is a memoir that rings with honesty and sings with the humor of real life. You don't have to have a passion for fly fishing, or even be in a relationship with a fisherperson, in order to identify with the stories that Carol Morrison has so beautifully put together in this volume. If you have a strong passion for something beyond your life partner, or if you are on the other side of such a relationship, will find yourself somewhere in this book. Catching On was a total pleasure to read the first time and immediately went on my re-read list for the summer!

A line on loving...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Catching On: Love with an Avid Fly Fisher (Paperback)
Loved this book! I read this book cover to cover in an evening, enjoying it as I would a pleasant conversation with a friend. It's humor and grace are a comfort in this complicated world. "Catching On" is a good place to go when you need a gentle reminder of how it's all the little things piling up that creates magnificance.

A warm & wonderful journey.....,
By A Customer
This review is from: Catching On: Love with an Avid Fly Fisher (Paperback)
I laughed, often cried at every one of Carol's life stories. Her insecurities, her annoyances, her tender learnings, herloving and her being loved are so completely her own, and yet familiar. Her "Bloody Duck" incident touched a chord so true that we read it to brunch guests a few weeks ago, after which we spontaneously shared our own stories of love and forgiveness.I highly recommend "Catching On" for those who find loving another a worthy journey of the heart.

Rule Me With a Gentle Hand,
By A Customer
This review is from: Catching On: Love with an Avid Fly Fisher (Paperback)
I recently purchased this book and couldn't put it down until I finished it. The story depicts real people learning to cope with the difficulties of modern love and marriage. Even if the "other woman" in a marriage is racing, football, or shopping, etc., the reader can truly appreciate the important truths about married life that are revealed again and again. Hopefully, "to rule with a gentle hand" will become the goal of those who read this realistic description of the evolution of love.

A gentle memoir about love, fly fishing, and faith in God,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Catching On: Love with an Avid Fly Fisher (Paperback)
Carol Morrison's Catching On: Love With An Avid Fly Fisher is a gentle series of essays about love, fly fishing, and faith in God. A compelling story of sharing bonds and pastimes, as well as a reverent appreciation for the harvested bounties of nature, Catching On is a memorable dream made real -- and pleasantly colored with a personal love of angling for a fish dinner.

Introduction is good, but...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Catching On: Love with an Avid Fly Fisher (Paperback)
The introduction is good, and shows some insight. But the rest of the book is a description of the minutia of her husbands love of fly fishing and her love of her husband. It lacks a story. I do not recommend it.
