Hmmm, borrowed this game today from the library and played it with my eight year old. She liked it. I liked it. We got up to the end of chapter 2 but it goes up to 15 chapters per the cover info. Very easy to learn. If you've ever played the computer/video version of I Spy then that's a lot what this game is like. Cate West is a character who gets these visions about crimes; you either find stuff hidden in the vision or you spot the differences between two pictures. Each chapter sort of repeats the steps; new stuff to find but nothing yet to move a greater storyline along. Maybe when we get farther?? The Wiimote works okay; perhaps more fun doing it on the TV than on a smaller computer screen as a PC version, which is more of what the game reminds me of. The Wiimote arrow must be RIGHT ON the picture you want to select in order for it to recognize it. I like that the B button on the wiimote acts as a magnifying glass to zoom in on the picture, BUT the resulting image zipping around will make people watching dizzy. Generally, the game is a bit easy. For instance, in certain parts you need to find 8 out of 10 hidden objects to pass on to the next level. And you have about 20 minutes to do it in. Okayyyyyy, fine for an 8 year old doing it alone, but anything older than that will be underchallenged. The game gets a rating of 10+ for tobacco & violence references but I think the range is probably more like 7 years up to whenever your kid is too old to be amused by search and find stuff. I'm probably more interested in it as a mom than a typical teenager. Anyway, in a nutshell, this is really a renter, not a game to own.

I was uncertain about my purchase since I'd heard nothing about this game before. I just finished playing it a second time through and I absolutely love it! It is a fabulous work-out for your brain, covering memory, logical analysis, and visual acuity, plus it's really fun and engaging. The fact that it has multiple endings to the plot, based on your score, makes you want to rack up those points and find out what happens! the graphics are really awesome, too. You will get hooked! I just can't express how satisfied I am with this purchase. I wish there were more games like this for Wii!! I can't believe there isn't more buzz about it.
Top 10 things I love about Cate West: The Vanishing Files - Gorgeous art throughout the game - Challenging Puzzles on every level - you will never get bored! - 14 chapters with at least 5 sub-sections each really provide a substantial amount of gaming. - Intriguing plot that keeps you motivated to get to the next chapter. - Flawless Gameplay - You can choose "Story Mode" (Puzzles + plot) or "Quick Play" mode (Just the puzzles, baby!) - Multi-player option! - Create up to 6 different save files (a detail not to be overlooked). - Easy to learn- my tech-challenged 60 year old mother LOVES to play. - Unlock multiple endings! You can play and get a different ending, it's like 3 games in 1! Long story short - I HIGHLY recommend this game, and I hope there will be a sequel!

I love the hidden object games. This game I have to admit is kind of hard to play as the graffics are rather dark and makes it hard to find/see the objects. Other than that, the game is fine, not really much callenge to it. As far as the purchase through Amazon, it was great, shipped quickly and got the game exactly when I was told I would get it. Even though it was a used game, it was in perfect condition.

Great game to play as a group or by your self. I have a 27" TV; so a little too small to find somethings. I have played on a bigger TV and that was great. It's fun to play in a group with everyone looking for things.

This is a fairly standard hidden object game which really does not work on the wii. The graphics are poorly drawn and even the text on the list of objects to find is not easy to read, even on HDTV (480p) mode. As the strength of the wii is the use of the remote controls and ability to play at some distance from the screen it is not helped by the fact that even when you can see the objects you have to be very precise to click on the object. I would imagine that this would be a fine game of its type played on a laptop and it is available for the PC much cheaper.
There are 15 Chapters so quite a long game although predominantly hidden objects there are also screens to compare and find the differences, screens to find evidence (similar to hidden objects) and identifying the correct criminal by answering questions. Each screen is timed however the timing is quite generous. There is a magnifying glass to help find hidden objects and also a hint facility if you lose patience although this does invoke a time penalty as does random clicking in the hope of finding an object. There are a number of modes varying from single player to two players in "head to head versus mode" (their words). In summary a game that could have been good if there were better graphics and more imaginative use of the wii remote.

This was our first hidden object game and we loved it- well done and lots of fun. We've played it twice now and got the new version for the PC (not available on Wii for some reason). The only thing annoying is the Wii remote response when trying to point to and pick up an object- difficult at times.

The game was good overall, the items to find were extremely small even with the magnifying glass, but it was fun to play and have the family join in.

The game is so fun, it need a little more than just find objects, have very cool music and the history line is good enough to keep you playing.
The controls are so intuitive and it have a good multiplayer too, is really a good game to kill some time. |
