MURDER WITH ALL THE TRIMMINGS

It's six days until Christmas and Neil Marshall--Houston poet and gourmet catering chef--feels flatter than a fallen soufflé for the holidays. But when his grandfather shows up looking like old St. Nick, Neil hits bottom.

For once-feisty Grandpa Marshall is running scared, suspected of having murdered his mining partner back home in Colorado. It's up to Neil to beat the old man's betrayers to the draw. Otherwise, his goose will be cooked and his granddad's mining interests served up to a murderer on a silver platter.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Poet and chef Neil Marshall, depressed following the recent deaths of his father and two friends, is not in a festive mood and is certainly not prepared for uninvited visitors during the holidays. Neil finds himself in the soup when his 6' 7" Santa look-alike grandfather shows up in Houston with something heavy on his mind. Things get worse when they find Neil's landlord's house trashed, his Doberman knifed and an outline of Santa's head "skewered by the lustrous blade." When the wife of Grandpa's mining partner turns up dead in Colorado, the police are anxious to grill Grandpa, so Neil hides him. Hemlin (If Wishes Were Horses...) turns up the heat as the Christmas holidays draw nearer. This time out, however, the thrill of the mystery takes a backseat to Hemlin's descriptions of Grandpa and Marshall, and to the holiday festivities he serves up throughout.

This review is from: A Catered Christmas (Mass Market Paperback)
A well-written book, part of a series, a caterer-poet-amateur sleuth hero. This one has a Christmas setting with a rough and tumble Santa as an important part of the story. Includes a recipe from the story. You'll enjoy the food prep scenes if you're a fan of the Food Network shows.
