I have been a great fan of Caterina Valente since I was a kid, watching her variety show on German television. Already back then I was fascinated with all the different styles she mastered in her clear and expressive voice. Back then I had no idea that she recorded so many songs in english (and other languages). I came across this CD almost by accident and it brought back wonderful memories of her old records and her show. The sound quality is excellent and does her performance justice. With the revival of classical swing and the swank music of the ffties and sixties, Caterina should not be overlooked. She is in a class of her own.

AT MY 35 YEARS IT HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO GET MUCH MATERIAL OF CATERINA VALENTE.HOWEVER I WAS THRILLED TO FIND ON THIS CD RECORDINGS THAT I HAD HEARD ON 10" LP. ON THE SAME, THERE WERE OTHER TITLES LIKE "THE WAY YOU LOVE ME" AND ALTHOUGH I MAY BE WRONG, I THINK SHE SANG IT WITH STANLEY BLACK'S ORCH. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE VALENTE-BLACK RECORDINGS ARE AVAILABLE? I HAVE ALSO LISTENED TO HER SINGING IN SPANISH AND PORTUGUESE ON A LONDON RECORDS RELEASE WITH THE ORCHESTRA OF EDMUNDO ROS. IT WOULD SOUND TERRIFIC ON A CD. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION, WOULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS CD TO BOTH CATERINA'S FANS AND ANY ONW WHO HAS EVER HEARD ABOUT HOW GOOD SHE WAS. THIS CD WILL GO BEYOND YOUR EXPECTATIONS...

I can't believe that I actually found this artist (let alone multiple selections)on compact disc! I still have a vinyl copy of her HI FI Nightingale record from my childhood, although it is quite worn. Finding Miss Valente's amazing voice preserved for future generations gives me hope. If you have never heard Catrina Valente sing before you will be amazed... very like a European Yma Sumac in terms of her range, but far more versitile and talented. The arrangement on "Secret Love", among others, seems particularly innovative. Overall a must have for those who truly appreciate the great vocal stylists of this period.

I am so pleased to have found Caterina's work on Amazon. My vintage collection from the 50's was destroyed by fire in the 70's. I have missed her music so much since and now it is available again. Thanks Amazon. Now will you try to get the company to digitally remaster and release her "Classics with a Chaser" with the Werner Mueller Orchestra, please. Or I'd appreciate an email from anyone who may know where I could get a copy. Thanks again.

My father bought a Caterina Valente tape, I heard it, and I really like her voice, in this LP, she is interpreting pretty songs, she sings a song that was written (letter and music) by a Mexican author (Agustin Lara) the song's name is "Granada", and is one of my favorite of her, besides "The Breeze and I"!

The Caterina Valente Collection : The Breeze and I,
This review is from: The Caterina Valente Collection: The Breeze and I (Audio CD)
Caterina Valente's voice and style have not changed since the first time I heard her sing The Breeze and I way back in the sixties, it was then on the long-playing vinyl record. I like her strong voice giving spice and life to the music like Poinciana, Jalousie and Granada.
This CD album includes some of her old songs with more recent ones sung in her usual style makes it a pleasure to own. The recordings of the old titles with the modern CD technology really adds to the enjoyment in listening to her sing again.

Simply an excellent CD. This album contains many of the great songs from my cherished possession of Caterina Valente LPs; however, there are many more songs from The Hi-Fi Nightingale, Toast To The Girls, Plenty Valente, etc. albums that I would like to see on a sequel or two to this CD. I hope this wish would be a reality soon.

I remember hearing Caterina Valente's "The Breeze and I" while riding in a pickup truck on a Texas Panhandle road in 1955. It was glorious! I lost a 33-rpm copy of her "Hi-Fi Nightingale" in a house move in 1981, and have been looking for some type of replacement ever since. I just received from Amazon.com the C.V. Collection, and it is great! Caterina sings again!

The songs in this collection take you back to the '50s when Caterina was enjoying a huge success in Europe and America. She uses her extraordinary range to showcase some of the most successful tunes of all time. An Italian/French lady, born in Paris, she sings in six languages but her English here is far better in diction and inflection than most performers for whom English is their native language. This is definitely not everyday, run-of-the-mill stuff!
