Best shoe ever built by MAN!!! Only shoe I wear due to my work all day standing on cement floors. Gives me the support and comfort I need to make it through every day with no pain or backache. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Caterpillar shoes. Period!!!

I already bought 3 pairs of the same boots and they are perfect. However, while these fit perfect, there is a serious design flaw. where the lace up part meets the side of the shoe, there are three pieces of leather overlapping which creates a thick ridge on the inside of the shoe. This presses against the foot and is EXTREMELY PAINFUL. I tried thicker wool socks to "hide" this ridge, but it didn't help. When I compare my CAT boots with the CAT shoes, the boots are perfectly smooth inside in the same area, and they used a brass rivet in the boots to hold it all together. But in the shoe, they just stack up three layers of leather and sew it all together. I'll buy another pair when they can fix this. Other than this the CAT shoes look and fit perfectly. It is too bad someone bungled up this design and ruined an otherwise perfectly good style of shoes.

I have returned 3 other shoes before deciding on this shoe. It is comfortable and very durable. The leather is soft and pliable while being very durable. The "SuperWelt(TM)" appears to be at least a goodyear welt with double stitching at the toes. Its hard to tell from the picture though, but the last two shoe-lace eyelets are not open on the sides like some boots are, so the shoelace has to be threaded through them. I won't have much trouble bending and moving around wearing these shoes/boots.

The inner part of the shoe has a breathable mesh on the sides and back and has a fairly soft insert. The provided inserts still made the shoe seem very hard on the bottoms of your feet though because of the hard material below the inserts, but there is always some amount of discomfort with work boots for a reason. All in all, I really like these shoes, especially at below $90.

These shoes are massive. Much sturdier than a comparable wolverine brand. The shoelaces are thick and overall just a heavy duty, well made shoe. The overall heavy duty construction also makes them very heavy. To me , its a good thing. You cant really expect to have a heavy duty, lightweight shoe can you?
I had to deduct a star for a crazy reason. My pair came with different shoelaces. Odd as it sounds one is noticeably thicker and 6" longer? What happened here guys? Not a terrible concern. they are both black at least and not very noticeable while Im wearing them.

The insole is ok better than most manufacturers insoles but dr sholes has a better insole for moisture and comfort. Blue honeycomb looking one

I already owned a pair of these before I bought them, I have had them for 3 years now. I do field work and light construction, I have taken them on back packing trips and long hikes. They held up to everything and more, put over 2000 miles on them before I wore them out and another 1000 miles before they got holes all the way through the sole. The one big suggestion I would give is when you get them use a water proofing treatment on them, they don't really leak but if you are standing in water for long periods they tend to get wet inside, not sure how they just do.

They are very comfortable, a bit heavy but I was already used to wearing steel toe boots when I went to these. After about 1000 miles the insert inside the shoe died but it was easy enough to get a new one and replace it.

2016 Update: Very pleased, three years later! I have replaced the shoe laces with parachute cord, and that's the only real wear I'm seeing. OH my feet are grateful for a good ride. Of the two pairs, the black pair gets more use than the brown pair, only because they look a little less casual. The brown pair more easily shows scuffs and scrapes as a lighter color mark. Abrasions do not seem to be as obvious on the black pair.

2013 UPDATE: I've now bought a 2nd pair in Black. They also fit well. Same comments 2x.

    ---

These are built well, with the leather uppers stitched nicely to the rubber lower. Very dark brown. I'm hoping to be able to wear these with business attire when I know I'll be outdoors or in settings where I don't want to risk my Allen Edmonds. These can probably pass as shoes thanks to the lack of "boot" styling on the sides (such as real shiny metal rivets, high-contrast stitching among sections, etc.). I may use a Sharpie pen to black-out the yellow logo on the tongue under the laces.

Very comfortable. The brochure says the lower inner lining can be removed. Didn't try it. Might be good to launder every so often. The quality of the manufacturer's packaging was above average, with laces nearly completely threaded and tied. Shoes are stuffed with clean white paper to retain shape.

The uppermost eyelet is NOT a hook that you wrap the final lace-up around, as commonly seen with hiking boots. It is an eyelet through which the lace is threaded. You'll see when you finish lacing. If the lace ever frays from extended use, it will be difficult to pass the frayed end through the eyelet.

I do not find these shoes unusually heavy, and after about an hour's walking and a re-tie to tighten, they no longer seem a bit big.

According to the box, this branding is actually part of the Wolverine company, with the Caterpillar logo used under license. Made in Bangladesh.
