Basic Functions. Great Computer!!,
By
This review is from: Cateye CC-RD100 Strada 8-Function Bicycle Computer (Sports)
I was in need of a bicycle computer with these basic functions: Current speed, average speed, trip distance and total traveled distance (odometer).I went to my local bike shop and told the salesman what I needed. He, of course, tried to sell me the most expensive model with some functions that I didn't even know what they were for. In the end, after a hypnotic sale, I ended up convinced that I needed a wireless computer with not only the features mentioned above, but also one that measures altitude, temperature and heart rate.
I bought it, but I decided to make a little more research, returned the Sigma and I bought the Cateye Strada from Amazon. At first I was surprised by how small it is (about 1.5" x 1.25"), but after installation, I think it's the right size. The installation was very simple, no tools required at all. The menu navigation is not intuitive, and required me to do something that I dread deeply: Read the manual! After all of three minutes reading it, I set the wheel size (following a chart provided in the manual) and I was ready to go. This computer shows current speed (in mph or kph), average speed, maximum speed, trip time, trip distance, total traveled distance (odometer) and a clock. Before my daily trip I reset all the values to zero by pressing on the face of the computer for two seconds (the odometer doesn't reset since it keeps the accumulative count of your trips) and I get the counts for my daily workout. Also, one neat feature is that the odometer is programmable, so you can input your odometer reading when you have to change the battery. So far, I'm very satisfied with this computer. Very precise, slick, and does a great job. Amazon did a good job with the delivery as well.

Nice evolution of the Cateye line,

I've used Cateye bike computers for several years. I like a simple wired computer because the wireless ones use two batteries (more to go wrong) and sometimes pick up false readings from things like power lines or neon signs. The Strada has a nice bracket that can work either on the handlebars or the stem and you can install it without tools. You do have to read through the instructions to figure out the right calibration number for your wheel size but once you have the computer set-up the operation is pretty straight-forward. You toggle through the computer modes with a single button press. So far, the Strada seems weather-proof.

Simple and Sturdy,
This review is from: Cateye CC-RD100 Strada 8-Function Bicycle Computer (Sports)
As an avid commuter cyclist I put on 4000km/year in all kinds of weather. I've used several computers but this is my favourite so far. The feature I like best is that you operate it without buttons--just press the face to switch between modes. The toolless mounting is also very handy. But what drove me to write this review is the experience I had today. Biking in the dark at -10C I took a spill in a snowy patch on the road. I didn't notice until I got to work that my Strada was missing. But on the way home I found it, face down in the middle of the snowy icy road with car tire tracks right over it. Picked it up, wiped off the snow, and it's working as good as new.
My only beef with it is that the plastic handlebar mount can become brittle in the cold and break. In fact that's likely why it fell off in the first place, as the mount had broken the previous week and was holding it loosely. I wish the mount was made of metal, but as far as I can see every computer on the market uses plastic mounts.

It is my 2nd cateye cycling computer. It's inexpensive, durable and easy to use. Been using this for 2 months now for my bike commute to work every day. Worked very well even when it was 25F or when it was soak from thee rain.
I like large display and the no-button design. What I would have a preferred is to have an average cadence reading.

Exactly What I Wanted,

After spending a bit of time comparing various bicycle computers, I opted for this one. It offered all of the feature I required and comes from a reputable company.
Yes, it took a while to install, but most bicycle computers take a while to install due to the small pieces, magnets, etc. Par for the course, eh? The only thing missing is some type of lighting so the computer display could be read at night - for those of you who ride in the dark regularly. I don't ride at night, though, so not a huge issue for me. Finally, the one-button operation makes this computer simple and easy to use -- especially while riding.

I just got my Strada cyclometer, and I couldn't be more pleased. I love the small size, and the ability to mount on the stem. Setup took 10 minutes, time I mostly spent fine-tuning the positioning of the sensor on the fork. Programming the wheel size and other settings was very easy although I wish the instructions were a bit more explicit about the need to hold down the menu button to change digits on the wheel size. Took 'er out for a spin, the speed is easy to read, and operation is hassle-free: just press the end of the unit to toggle through the displays. Hold down to clear the data. I can't say anything about durability because I just got it, but if it's like my other Cateye products that shouldn't be a problem. If you appreciate elegance and functionality in a minimal package this computer is for you.

good product when it works,
This review is from: Cateye CC-RD100 Strada 8-Function Bicycle Computer (Sports)
I've had two of these. The first one worked good for about 2 months. Then the speedometer would start to go to zero, then would start reading after you'd press on the face several times. Since the first one was so new, i just returned it and got another. The second has lasted two years and it has started doing the exact same thing. I replaced the battery, placed the magnet super close to the pickup (now it hits when I pedal hard) reset everything, checked the wires, nothing has helped. I've talked to others who have not had this problem. Surely this has happened to others. Buyer beware.

Best Cyclocomputer on the market. EVER!,

This is my third one on my third bike. I like how simple it is to use, nice large display and easy to install.
My oldest one is going on 3 years and haven't changed the battery yet and I keep my bikes outside. It's also very durable since I have ridden in the rain several times and got it soaked, yet it still preforms flawlessly. Most people I guess are going the wireless rout, which I don't understand? The wireless is more bulky, more weight and requires 2 batteries when they need to be replaced. I've tried several other brands Blackburn, Bell and like this CatEye Strada (CC-RD100 ) the best ever.

Does what its supposed to do. Easy to use, install instructions werent very clear but it wasnt hard to figure out. Riding is much more enjoyable when you know exactly how far you've rode and on each ride along with the MPH and odomoter to keep track of total mileage. Great product.

An excellent basic Cyclo-comp!,

The Cateye Strada is a great cyclo-computer. It has all of your basic functions, including settings for two different bikes. It was fairly simple to install, and the single push-button design is easily usable when you're barreling down the side of the road, trying not to get squashed by an 18-wheeler. On this model, you can actually see the screen when wearing polarized sunglasses, a plus that many other computers can't claim. It's been working well for me for the past 150 miles, and my friends has clocked 1500 on his, still working like the day he bought it. Great buy!
