Have used this headlight on numerous occasions on various terrain, and find it has a great balance of a bright zone in the center of the beam with a nice transition to the edge of the beam, no sharp cutoff. Constant mode has lasted many hours, still very bright. Flashing mode great for riding in traffic-- very noticeable. Installation is a snap, no tools required for the mounting bracket. Then just snap the light in. Also works as a great flashlight for around the campsite. Very pleased. Great build quality, barely sips batteries, good beam spread.

The Cateye HL-EL220 is a great light. It's got five LEDs and it really is one of the brightest bike lights I've seen in this price range. It provides great visibility at night and it's really easy to snap on and off when I park my bike somewhere. Install was a breeze with no tools required, and it's really to adjust up or down based on the conditions I'm riding in. I highly recommend it.

Have used this light for a while now and it lights up a good field of vision when night bike riding. Love the flashing mode which is really noticeable even during the day. Very easy to install. I highly recommend this bike light.

Very nice, easy, secure mounting; easy on/off, but doesn't fall off. Bright, wide beam, lasts and lasts. Strobe works to be seen in traffic. Good value, no frills.

Light is bright (although big). Kind of a pain to cycle through each of the light options. In the end its a relatively inexpensive bike light of sufficient build quality that I see it being useful for many years to come.

I bought the EL220 on account of the reviews on Amazon, and I was not disappointed. It has a nice wide beam, which is good for dimly-lit and pot-holed residential roadways. Given the (bad) road conditions and beam spread, I would keep to about 25km/h on my MTB - just to be on the safe side.

Build quality is typical Cateye: well engineered, snaps together nicely and doesn't feel plasticky at all. The mount is secure, and so is the slide-in lock. Plus you have an assuring audible click - just so you know you won't be picking up batteries and bits of flashlight when you hit a rut.

For the heck of it, I mounted another Cateye - this time an EL320 - in tandem and I now feel I have a good combo (even if my handlebar looks more like a Christmas tree now). The EL320 casts its well-defined spot one bike-length ahead, while the EL220 keeps the immediate 2 feet in front well lit. It's like having your car headlamps (spot/EL320) and driving or fog lamps (wide/EL220) lit at the same time.

With this set up, I could pedal a bit faster (about 5 kph) without fear of running into something or someone.

Ligh was easy to install, battery access is better than others I have used.
All in all a good light.

I will admit I don't know much about bike lights and I have not compared this to other products so this is just me disclaiming that before hand.

I bought this for my occasional commute at night around the city of Los Angeles and did not expect it to fully light the road but expected to light the darker spots. It would seem that it is barley noticeable on the road even in some of the dark areas but is definitely good enough for the occasional street with no street lights at least. It is however bright enough to light up the road directly in front of you ( maybe 5 feet ) so at least I can avoid pot holes in the like. The battery life seems great and people on the road definitely notice me more with this light and in that respect works great. I purchased this light for close to $30 and feel that it was more of a $20 light the build quality is great and I love the fact that it can come off the bike so that I don't have to worry about anyone steeling it, and it makes a great flashlight. Another thing I have noticed is that it is much smaller in person then it appears to be as displayed by amazon, I have posted a picture to show this.

If I knew how this light performed before hand I might have gone with a different light like maybe one of the 1 watt planet bike ones. If all you need is for people to see you this will probably work fine. If you want something that will light up the road so that you can see everything on it even in the darker areas this is not the light for you.

I ride in the city at night quite a bit, and I wanted a nice light to increase my visibility on lit roads, as well as for use as a good light source to ride unlit park trails. This light does well at both. It is quite bright, though somewhat less so than I hoped. Easy tool-free installation was a snap. Worthwhile buy for the price to be sure!

I've had this light for about 4 years now. It has been rock solid. It's not the brightest light, but it's enough to ride on roads at night and see the road and be seen by other vehicles. Plus, it's a good price. Just get some rechargeable batteries for it to make the deal even greater!
