4.0 out of 5 stars Highly visible... great light
This is an upgrade version of another tail light Cateye makes.

It seems to be a bit brighter than the previous model. And both were pretty bright. It really does a good job of getting people's attention.

1.0 out of 5 stars While the body of the TL-LD610 has improved, the mounting strap is bad
Summary: Body of light has improved, but mounting strap is flimsy and sticks out 3/4 inch.

I have owned a very similar Cateye model in the past that I really liked. So I thought that it was a no brainer to get the upgraded model for another bike.

The body of the light is a slight improvement with an easier to reach button and it seems to be a...

This is an upgrade version of another tail light Cateye makes.

Changes for the good...

It seems to be a bit brighter than the previous model. And both were pretty bright. It really does a good job of getting people's attention.

The attachment mechanism does not require any tools. Just thread the strip into the slot and start screwing the knob. Makes it easy add or remove the light and move it from bike to bike.

Been through the rainy season with mine and I can vouch for the fact that it is sealed well against the rain seeping into the unit. Both this new one and old model seem very well designed to keep moisture out. (unlike many lights out there that I've tried that get ruined after a few rides in the rain)

Reliable... I've never had this light (or the previous model) stop working in the middle of the ride. Many other lights I've tried don't secure the batteries well so ...hit a bump and you have no light. Worst of all, with a tail light... you won't know it is off till you get home and see that it isn't functioning and then realize you've been riding in the dark in traffic with no rear tail light. Not good. Not so with this one! Having a tail light that you can rely on to stay on and not go dark on you in the middle of a ride is a real comfort.

Changes for the not so good...

They placed the on-off button on the side and it is indistinguishable from a similarly shaped piece of red rubberized material placed in the exact location on the other side of the light. So I used to find myself pressing on the 'decorative' button on the opposite side of the light instead of the functional one. Got annoying so I marked the right side with a piece of tape.

The button itself is rather small and it is difficult to be certain you're pressing it. A bit annoying.

They changed the way you turn the light off. Used to be you press the on/off button several times(rotate through the functions) until you come to the 'off' function. On the new light, you have to press the button for about 3 or 4 seconds to turn it off. For me, I liked the old way better. I could turn it off in a second...vs 3 or 4.

Conclusion... the good far outweighs the little problems. The light is bright, gets people's attention, is reliable and can take the rain without being ruined.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, but something missing from product description..., June 15, 2010

I purchased the "white" version of this Cat Eye bicycle light, thinking the LEDs were also white. No--they're red color lights behind a clear casing, housed in a white-colored frame.

Amazon and Cat Eye should augment their product description to state that the LED lights (for this specific product) are RED color.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cateye Taillight...Best bang for the Buck!!, August 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cateye LD610 Taillight (Misc.)
I just purchased a bike about a month ago so it has only been a short time before I needed some accessories. I can safely say after receiving the Cateye LD610 (white) in the mail I am extremely pleased. I live in a rural area but the road I ride to work connects two major highways so I needed a bright light for at night. This easily passes the test with its 4 blinking modes and standard all on mode. If you do any kind of night riding on dark roads this light will be worth every penny spent. I turned it on in my home when the LEDs are literally blinding up close. If someone hits you with this taillight they would have to have been asleep at the wheel!

Pros:
Slim Design
Clear Lens
Good mounting for the most part
4 blinking modes
Brighter then most car brake lights

Cons:
Price - $20-$30

Honestly I can't even complain about the price because its a matter of you get what you pay for and this light is an excellent addition to any night riders bike. If you live in the country or think your roads are too dark for anything conventional, this light will do the trick!

I got this for my 26" bmx cruiser and ride at night. Its highly visible, and really gets attention. i mounted it vertically along the seat post, use the "knightrider" flashing mode and it really looks awesome. The unit is nicely built and holds up very well. A white LED version of this would be so cool for the front!

This light is very bright & noticeable. Easy to use and easy to install. The only drawback, the light has a hard time sitting flush on some surfaces. When mounting to a seat post it's fantastic and solid. When mounting to a bike rack - not so solid. I've had to add a zip-tie to make this a more stable setup on the bike rack.

Regardless - great light for the money!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very bright, and very wide, October 14, 2009

This thing is bright. Super bright. And big. Like wider than my palms. Which created a small problem: if the light is mounted on my seat tube horizontally, my thigh hits it on the downstroke. Fortunately, the light can be mounted vertically just by sliding the light into the mount that way. No hassle. I certainly don't mind it being vertical.

However, if you're very particular about how your light is mounted on your bike, and you have a narrow saddle, this may not be for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like it, with one small caveat, November 7, 2010

Overall, this is a great light, extremely bright, with a variety of flashing modes. I understand it's waterproof, which is important where I am. I have the older model this replaced as well (LD600) and the LD610 is MUCH brighter and visible from further away. While the on-off button is different as others noted, it's much less prone to turning itself on or off from a hard bump as the old design did, though it's tiny, and hard to find sometimes in the dark.

The only thing I find irksome about this light that prevents 5 stars is that the strap that is shown for mounting is the ONLY way to mount it out of the box. So you better want it on your seatpost, and as others noted, the end of the strap sticks out, though that hasn't bothered me personally. However, I have a carrier on the back of my bike and since I want to mount this light onto the back of the carrier, I have to special order from CatEye a tiny plastic piece with the square fitting that these lights use. This trivial piece costs $5 and more yet to ship it to my local bike store (they won't ship to individual customers in Hawaii). Most bike accessories usually include a variety of fitting pieces and I'm sure it probably costs two cents to make. If you want to clip the light to clothing, you have to buy that too (only a dollar plus shipping, but still...c'mon Cateye!)

now that the weather is getting darker, earlier i picked this up. its great and super bright. i cannot imagine anyone not seeing you with this on your bike. i wear a headlamp on the front and it has proven to be a good combo. a nice plus is that it is super easy to take off/put on so it doesn't get stolen!

5.0 out of 5 stars TL-LD610 another good cateye product, January 19, 2008
This review is from: Cateye LD610 Taillight (Sports)
So far so good. It is quite visible from behind. I ride early mornings before the sun comes up and this light is quite visible. I put this light & a planet bike superflash on the back of my bike - good combo to get driver's attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of 3 I tried, September 15, 2011

Note: I have posted this same review to the product pages of all the products listed below.

I reviewed the following products, and have listed them in my order of preference:

1. Cateye TL-LD610-BR 5-LED Rear Bicycle Light ([...])
2. Planet Bike Blinky "7" 7-Led Rear Bicycle Light ([...])
3. Cateye TL-LD150 LED Bicycle Tail and Safety Light (Red) ([...])

1. Was definitely the brightest. It was also the best-built, with the most number of blinking options. It's easy to attach and change the batteries -- all around a good design. The bicycle store clerk also said it was the brightest he had. But they're expensive.
2. Is the best bang-for-your-buck. It's less designed, and not as bright, but still bright enough.
3. I wouldn't recommend this one. It was significantly less bright than the other two.
