This review is from: Catfish Blues (MP3 Download)
Superb late-prewar Mississippi blues in the style of Tommy McClennan (they knew each other and played together). Petway's "Catfish Blues" was the premier recorded version of an old theme. Muddy Waters took it, slowed it down and called it "Rolling Stone". So, the next time you think of the World's Oldest Rock Band, or the bi-weekly journal, or Mr Zimmerman, think also of Robert Petway. Furthermore, his duet with Tommy McClennan, "Boogie Woogie Woman", included on this CD, is one of the most joyous pieces of juke joint blues dance you'll ever encounter.
