Editorial Reviews

Denyce Graves has made quite a splash in the opera world with her performances of sultry mezzo roles such as Carmen and Dalila at the Metropolitan Opera and now she brings us these holiday renditions.

5.0 out of 5 stars gorgeous and moving, December 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Cathedral Christmas (Audio CD)
Miss Graves has truly produced a compelling work of art in the usually pedestrian field of Christmas music. She does not limit herself to the old standards we are all tired of hearing, she includes nativity-based songs from Africa and South America accompanied by the instruments indigenous to these cultures. Miss Graves repetoire is not limited to Western Opera alone, she displays an ability to transcend any conceivable barrier in her path. Be prepared to be amazed.

When Denyce Graves sings "Ave Maria," it's like God sent an Angel down to sing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Graves is Great, December 17, 2009
This review is from: A Cathedral Christmas (Audio CD)
I had never heard of Ms. Graves prior to this point. After looking at the songlist and previewing some of the songs, I thought this would be a great addition to my holiday collection. I listen to contemporary Christian Music as well as the traditional holiday favorites. An opera singer in an cathedral, singing holiday favorites, how could I not go wrong. Great voice and she does traditional music as well as anyone. Not taking into account that my sister-in-law is an opera singer, she has a great voice and this album would be a great addition to your holiday collection, regardless of whether or not you like opera.
