This was made in 1970 as a mini-series by the BBC. I believe for Masterpiece Theatre. It has six parts, one for each wife.
I am not an Historian but I have read some books and seen some other films about Henry the VIII and his Six Wives.

THIS SERIES of film stories IS AS ACCURATE as I have ever seen!!!

You will enjoy watching this again and again. This was done in England, by English people about their own history.
It does not get better than that!!!

May I highly recommend the viewing and buying if you so desired of The Six Wives of Henry the VIII.

I was impressed with the accuracy of the historical facts portrayed in the series, as far as I could tell by the books I have read on the subject. It seemed to closely follow "the six wives of Henry VIII" by Antonia Fraser, but i just noticed the first edition of her book was published in 1993, so I think they both might have used the same sources. I highly recommend this fantastic series. It is very entertaining as well as wonderfully acted by first class actors.

An excellent series that moves quickly. All six of the episodes are both historically insightful and very entertaining. Answers a lot of questions about why Henry VIII did what he did.

I realize that this is not the newest of series but it still isn't up to par. The acting was mediocre at best and I did not think this was worth the money.

I own the VHS set and I want it on DVD. I want always to have access to a copy to view whenever I want. I purchased a instant prime version and will eventually purchase a good quality DVD version. I don't know about the historical accuracy and I don't really care. It's entertaining and I enjoy viewing characters in this period as they are presented. I also love the costumes and the jewelry of these type productions. I prefer this actor's portrayal of Henry VIII over the other portrayals I have seen thus far. I think this portrayal of Henry VIII is the most complex and subtle portrait of his character I've viewed, compared with at least nine other films I've viewed in which he was a major character. I liked Eric Bana's portrayal of Henry VIII in 'The Other Boleyn Girl', also. I also like the female portraits of his queens the most in this version. In this version I saw Henry VIII as proud, assured, vulnerable to female wiles, but strong. All of the portrayals of this man's life make me certain I never want to live under the rule of someone who has 'absolute power'.

Okay... don't really LOVE it, but being a Tudor junkie it was interesting to watch it again. My husband and I DID love way back when it first aired on Masterpiece Theater... but we all move on, and sometimes a revisit is not as great as the first time. Still.... I'm sure it provides an interesting look into this very interesting part of English history.
