The strengths: This Bible has execellent color glossy inserts on the various doctrines of the Church. Topics covered are from the Papacy to Mary to Confession to ... most anything a new Catholic might wonder about. THESE ARE WHAT MAKE THIS BIBLE SO GOOD! My parish is giving these Bibles out to every family that has a baptism. Your parish should do the same!

The weaknesses: The NAB, while a good translation, is not as good as the Revised Standard Version-Catholic Edition (RSV-CE). The RSV-CE, one of the 4 Catholic approved Bibles (not that you can't read other versions), is for the serious Bible student. The NAB has some very light (tolerable) gender inclusive language. See the EWTN web site under FAQs - Scripture for a good explanation. Also, the book introductions are not always sound. Read those with caution. Catholics need to understand their faith better AND read the Bible more. This Bible helps tremendously with both. Enjoy!

While I know there are problems with the exactness of the translation (including inclusive language), don't leave home without this copy of the NAB! The slick, card-stock apologetics inserts are invaluable. Every 200 pages you'll find a common question of confusion or common objection to the Catholic Faith. The answers are concise and give you the confidence to discuss your Faith with friends, Catholic and non-Catholic alike. In addition, they're fully referenced to Sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

This Bible is the perfect companion for a brand-new Catholic or for a life-long Catholic who wants to have Catholic answers readily available. Don't leave home without it!

This is a wonderful study tool for students and converts to the Faith.. Inserts within the Bible answer common questions that many who are not Catholic ask about practices and traditions. Bible passages add the "confirmation" of why we "do what we do" as Catholics.

I wish this had more commentary in it. I was looking for more of a reference Bible but do enjoy reading this one. GREAT price!

I won't knock the CAB for being an NAB. I know it's not a really strict translation but I knew that when I bought it. Actually, I think the NAB is a good reading Bible. It can help overcome problems of the fact that there is no singular vs. plural "you" in English. Also, "thee" and "thou" slows me down so I don't miss them in the NAB. There are a few handy inserts with apologetical one page write ups on several issues. The Litergical calander is nice to have. The big problem with it is they chose not to drop historical critical footnotes found in any other NAB's. I found multiple notes with references to Q. For the same money, you could probably buy a cheaper NAB translation and a good apologetics book and be much better off.
