3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
If you've read any book on personal finances, you already have the financial information contained in this book. If you've read a Christian book on finances, you have the Biblical information contained in this book. If you use the index in your Catechism, you'll have the information on Church tradition contained in this book.

In all, this is a very light...

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, April 25, 2005

The Catholic Answers Guide to Family Finances is a must-read for everyone who has a family and finances. There are worksheets to help you keep track of everything.

I especially liked how this book approaches finances from a faith-filled perspective. Mr. Lenahan talks about putting your trust in God. He quotes Bible passages relating to this and to the proper attitude toward money.

This is an excellent resource for helping with your finances and your faith. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Finance Book Around, December 1, 2005
By
Kim Hester (Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Catholic Answers Guide to Family Finances (Paperback)
Lenahan's The Catholic Answers Guide to Family Finances is one of the three best personal finance books I have read (the other two are Schwab's Guide to Financial Independence and Stanley and Dunko's The Millionare Next Door). Lenahan's is the best of these three books because it has opened my mind to the spiritual dimension of personal finances, and it is, after all, upon this dimension that all else depends. Be sure to do all the readings and exercises in Part 1 of Lenahan's book, and you will in all likelihood become a much better person for the effort, as well as have insight into personal finances that you cannot obtain from other finance books. I am more than glad that I have read this book, and I highly recommend it for all who would wish to attain the greatest advancement of their personal financial and spiritual net worth.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great gift for newlyweds or the newly engaged, May 2, 2005
This review is from: The Catholic Answers Guide to Family Finances (Paperback)
This workbook has both spiritual and practical components that make it a must for every family. It is also set up in such a way that it can be worked through independently or with others in a study group format.

While the workbook is easy to read and understand, it will take time and commitment to work through it and actually apply what it contains to your financial situation. Phil Lenahan gives you all the tools necessary in this workbook. It is the first step to getting your financial house in order and keeping it that way.

Financial health is essential to a happy marriage. That is why Phil Lenahan's book is a tremendous service to married couples. This is a GREAT gift for newlyweds or newly engaged.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rewording of his other workbook, December 11, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Catholic Answers Guide to Family Finances (Paperback)
This is best described as a workbook. It has some content development about attitudes and faith along with budgeting advice, but you should refer to my review of his other workbook, Seven Steps to Becomming Financially Free. This CA Guide was published in 2000. The Seven Steps book was published in 2006. Probably go with the more recent work if you have to choose. The material looks very similar, just reworded and arranged differently. Both are competing with Crown Financial Ministries which has a Catholic version of their famous Protestant series. However, I fault both Phil's books for not giving any information about morally responsible investing / Biblically responsible investing. Nada. I gave this one the same star rating I gave the other: good. But I think these works could have been better. I bought this title because it was published by Catholic Answers. I thought it would have more in it, judging by their reputation. I'm a little disappointed, but still rate it a good buy.

If you use the index in your Catechism, you'll have the information on Church tradition contained in this book.

In all, this is a very light introduction to the subject. If you'd like more in-depth information, I would recommend one of Larry Burkett's books; if you'd like a very user-friendly, practical guide complete with forms, I'd recommend Ethan Pope's Creating Your Personal Money MAP.

This book has only 58 pages of text; the rest of the printed pages are multiple copies of four different forms--unnecessary for anyone with access to a copier.
