I am very happy with the features of this Douay-Rheims Bible. It is certainly affordable and downloaded with no problems in about 60 seconds. It is well-formatted and very easy to navigate.

I had always heard about the D-R Bible, the first complete Catholic Bible in English, and wanted to add it to my Kindle Bible collection because I enjoy comparing translations. After doing some research, I learned that the original D-R Bible, translated from the Latin Vulgate, for centuries the Bible of the Western Church and itself based on the Greek Septuagint, was published shortly before the King James Bible. The NT was published in 1582 and the OT in 1610. In fact, the translators of the KJV consulted it, particularly the NT, as they put together their own Bible.

The D-R Bible became popular after Bishop Richard Challoner made substantial revisions in the eighteenth century in order to make it less Latin sounding and thus more readable. His revision, which is the one most people read today and the one now on my Kindle, is thus sometimes called the Douay-Rheims Challoner Revision.

This D-R Bible has all the Deuterocanonical/Apocryphal books which many Protestant Bibles omit. I also discovered that because the D-R Bible follows the Latin Vulgate, whereas the KJV and its modern successors are based on the Masoretic text, the spelling and names of some of the books in the D-R Bible are different. For example, the Table of Contents shows Joshue, Isaias, Jeremias, and Osee (i.e. Hosea). The two books of Samuel are called 1 and 2 Kings; the two books of Kings are called 3 and 4 Kings; the two books of Chronicles are called 1 and 2 Paralipomenon.

It is important to know as well that the numbering of the Psalms in the D-R Bible follows that of the Latin Vulgate.

I would recommend this as "the" Catholic Bible to get for your Kindle. Easy to navigate and well put together.

I use different translations and editions on the Bible to deepen my understanding of the Scripture and also to be able to lead an effective conversation with other Christians from our Bible study group. I like this version offered by OSNOVA and feel very surprised with the negative reviews. It is indeed true that there are several versions of chapter/verse numbering, and the Douay-Rheims follows the Greek numbering. Also it is true that some translations use different names for the books in the Bible. The negative reviews only show the lack of knowledge on the part of the reviews. I have purchased several OSNOVA publications and have found them very thorough and accurate.

I've not purchased any "commercial" books as of yet for my Kindle. The ones that I am interested in at this time are either not available as ebooks or are poorly executed.

This publication is nicely laid out. The chapters and books don't just spill over from one to the next one, the verse numbers are superscripted so they don't get in the way of the text.

The navigation is also very well thought out. The publisher, OSNOVA, clearly cares about the quality of his product.

I was looking for a bible for my kindle and this edition really fit the bill. The easy navigation allowed me to go directly to the books/verses that I was looking for. Highly recommended!

I am familiar with the Douay-Rheims Bible. I have the beautiful, black hard cover edition for Loreto Publications. I searched each Kindle edition available as of this writing. The features most important to me were, of course that the Bible text itself be accurate and free from error and that what is contained in the front matter of my Loreto edition be present, such as the Impramatur, Nihil Obstat, Indulgence, opening prayers, the Encyclical Letter from Pope Leo XIII, the original names for the books of the Bible, such as Paralipomenon rather than Chronicles and Apocalypse rather than Revelation. Plus, the easy navigation feature was a must. The descriptions at the beginning of each chapter and the annotations at the bottom of the page that direct the reader to other pertinent scriptures would be so helpful. In short, I wanted my Kindle edition to exactly mirror my beloved Loreto edition.

I didn't get all this, but I did get some opening material; I got an opening prayer, though not the same ones in the Loreto edition, and some preface information, including a letter from Pope Pius VI to his son. There are no notes present, but that omission is made clear in the description and the offered sample. The navigation features are excellent and the text is clear and easy to read. The books are named with their beloved old names!

My goal in buying a Kindle edition of the Douay-Rheims was to have a convenient substitute for my hardcover and I feel that this edition is, by far, the best one available on Kindle at this time, no matter what the price. Perhaps certain features of the Loreto edition are the sole property of that publishing house and cannot be used. I don't know. If that's the case, I feel that Osnova Publications put in some effort to present a quality Kindle edition, unlike many I viewed that looked quickly and sloppily put together, some of which cost more and gave far less.

I purchased this book because I misplaced my paper New American Bible. I wanted to follow the recommend reading for the Daily Scriptures during the 2011 Lenten season. I, too, was a little confused about the different spelling of the names and the numbering. But I read through the reviews and I have a better understanding now.

Thanks for the production of this book and the ease of navigation to the specific verses.
