Expert recording of some of the most beautiful music,
By Raymond E. Conrad (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Catholic Classics 1 (Audio CD)
This CD and Volume 2 remind me of the Church and the happy times when I was a child. All those that I loved and loved me were alive. Sometimes I pray for my father or grandparents with "I am the Bread of Life" playing in the background. It always makes me cry, but I know that they are with the Lord. The refrain "I will raise you up on the last day" brings tears to my eyes even as I write this review. I am using this type of classic music to instruct my kids in the Catholic Tradition. We also discuss other hymns which have significant theological content such as "One Bread One Body." That one is not yet recorded. I hope the producer will fill in with some of these. I have mentioned to my children that if their friends of other religions ask what being a Christian in the Catholic Tradition is all about to explain the words in "One Bread One Body."

These are some of the most beautiful songs on one cd ever. I get tears almost every time I listen to "You Are Near", and that's quite often! Wonderful, soaring voices-nothing jazzed up or "cute". Listen to this cd and find your spirit uplifted every time!

very ethereal - a solemn, not joyful, song of praise,
By A Customer

(Yahweh, I Know) You Are Near is a beautiful song of praise based on Psalm 139. This version by a women's choral group, is very solemn, almost ethereal sounding with organ background. Would perhaps prefer to hear the song performed in an uptempo folk beat, with guitar accompaniment. The song certainly does lend itself lyrically to a more joyful expression of praise.

Beautiful Voices Singing Beautiful Songs,
By Amy Zielke (Summerville, South Carolina USA) - See all my reviews

This choir is awesome, such beautiful voices. I have been listening to it on my commute to/from work and it is unbelievably calming, something I desperately need to endure the commute and before/after work. I get "holy chills" listening to these pieces, especially "Blest Are They" and "I Am The Bread of Life."

What an joyous and peaceful CD. The beautiful hymns contained on the disc just enhances my Catholic faith. Most hymns are played in my parish and its great to have them available to listen to at any time...especially when I need spiritual renewal and inner peace.

Best Catholic DVD I've ever heard,

I love this Classic! I listen to it daily and found it to contain just a little bit of the very best of Catholic Music. Now if we could only get our music department at the church to include these in our Sunday masses, everyone would win!

Makes the songs inaccessible,
By
This review is from: Catholic Classics 1 (Audio CD)
When I came upon this entry and the track listing, I was excited to finally find a collection of Catholic music that is regularly sung in my own Parish. However, after listening to the samples, I have to agree with some of the other listeners that the tone of the recordings is not the joyful one that I'm used to. I find these versions inaccessible and distant. This is not a recording to sing along to, as in church with a cantor. Rather, this is clearly and overproduced performance and that is just not what I'm looking for in a collection of Catholic music.

I have been searching for a CD with many of my favorite mass songs. This CD fulfills that objective. It is a way for me to enjoy this music while driving in my car. Very inspirational!

Not classics, barely Catholic,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Catholic Classics 1 (Audio CD)
The title on the box says Catholic Classics, however the songs are either Protestant imports (meaning not Catholic) or written in the last 50 years, which may qualify for classic status of cars or Rock'n'roll but not for a church that counts it age in millenia.
