Book Description

September 1998
The authoritative work on the Church's teaching on sexual morality has been thoroughly updated to address dimensions of this complex topic that have emerged in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Since publication of the 2nd edition of Catholic Sexual Ethics, the philosophical landscape of human sexuality has dramatically changed. The rise of such concerns as moral relativism, the drive for same-sex unions, and a drastic redefinition of marriage and family have underscored the need for an unambiguous, up-to-date understanding of Catholic sexual teaching.

Features:
---Quotations from the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
---Summary of Catholic teaching on sexuality from biblical times to our own.
---Presentation of principal elements of the teaching of Pope Benedict XVI on marriage in the early years of his pontificate.
---Discussion of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith's 2003 Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognition to Unions Between Homosexual Persons.
---Integration of more recent materials that clarify issues into the existing framework of the book.

Whether they are involved in ministry, education, or catechesis, you and many others will benefit from having this essential resource near at hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucid and well documented, January 16, 2002
This review is from: Catholic Sexual Ethics (Paperback)
Dr. May provides a coherent introduction into the ethical issues surrounding sexuality as taught by the Catholic Church - both from the standpoint of Natural Law and John Paul II's personalistic philosophy. Faithful to the teaching of the Magisterium, May critiques revisionist views such as "consequentialism" and "proportionlism" that have curiously only arisen since Pope Paul VI's issuing of Humanae Vitae. May supplements his argument with copius citations of Church documents. Highly recommended for a Cathechist or anyone interested in what the Church truly teaches on sexual issues, May has a knack for relating difficult philosophical issues to the layperson without prior training.

Best, most up to date book on the subject. 2 nihil obstats, 1 imprimatur, 2 Bishop recommendation forewards.
Each of the three authors are current professors of Philosophy or Theology. Fr Ronald Lawler is adjunct Professor of Theology at
Franciscan University at Stuebenville. William E May is Professor of Moral Theology at the Pope John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and
Family in Washington DC. Another author Joseph Boyle, the third author, is the principal(dean) of St. Michaels College in Toronto where he
is also Professor of Philosophy. A good book on Catholic Sexual Ethics from a respected Catholic Publisher : Our Sunday Visitor.
