In an attempt to cover the most important pilgrimage sites in Europe,
the Author divided his work into two volumes one covering Central and
Eastern Europe and the other Western Europe. In spite of these demarcations,
this volume lacks several important Monasteries.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who plans on going for a pilgrimage to Western Europe. It contains a wealth of information to the well-known shrines and even to the ones you've not even heard of before. The prayers included in this book will greatly help one's pilgrimage be a grace and faith-filled one. This book likewise will be very helpful even to pilgrims who can not make the actual trip. I was at the different shrines in Europe not too long ago and I wish I had this book at at that time. Now that I have the book and opportunity is offering itself again, I am sure it will be very helpful. Kudos to you Kevin. Please write some more books similar to this, particularly on your pilgrimages to North America. It will surely be as helpful as THE CATHOLIC SHRINES IN WESTERN EUROPE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for a Semester in Europe, November 19, 2004

I spent two semesters in Europe and this book was immensely helpful in deciding which pilgrimage sights to go to and then finding them! I love the little maps that are shown for the various shrines. At Franciscan University's campus in Austria, this book in particular is very popular, because it tells about the history of the place and how to find it. If you know a Catholic who is going to Europe and wants to visit shrines, then I highly recommend this book.

Kevin Wright's book on Catholic Shrines in Western Europe proved to be an invaluable asset on my recent pilgrimage to Rome. It contains a wealth of information on numerous religious sites in Europe that no other travel guide offers. If you are planning a trip to Europe consider taking spiritual side-trips with the help of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for Catholics travelling in Europe!, March 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Catholic Shrines of Western Europe: A Pilgrim's Travel Guide (Paperback)
I recently spent a semester studying abroad in Europe, and Kevin Wright's book was the perfect guidebook to help me plan my trips to different pilgrimmage sites. In addition, it informed me of many shrines that I didn't even know existed! Not only does it have a large number of shrines, but easy-to-follow directions to get you there, places to stay, and the "must-see"s at each shrine. I can honestly say that this book helped me to grow in my faith, by making it easy for me to visit, and pray at, some the most holy places in Europe. Thanks, Kevin!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is THE book on Western European Shrines., March 28, 1999
This review is from: Catholic Shrines of Western Europe: A Pilgrim's Travel Guide (Paperback)
The number of travel books about Western Europe can be dizzying. Until Kevin Wright's book on Catholic shrines in Western Europe, however, these popular pilgrimage destinations--visited by hundreds of thousands each year--have gone essentially uncatalogued. Previous books on the subject were largely idiosyncratic and not terribly helpful to the traveler. Perhaps fortunately they are nearly all out-of-print. Not only has Wright thoroughly gathered information about the shrines but he has also written a thouroughly captivating book that is at once inspiring and helpful (with maps, transportation information, and loads of contact addresses and phone and fax information). And while the best known places such as Rome, Lourdes and Fatima are covered thoroughly, there are scores of others, treated with the same care and devotion. For those who will not actually travel to the pilgrimage sites, this book is a fascinating and stirring vicarious tour. For those planning a trip it is the indispensible handbook. It is no surprise that the author won the "Best Book by a New Author" award from the Catholic Press Association. It deserves not only sectarian honors. Catholic Shrines of Western Europe is not only a must for religious travelers, it is a gem worthy of any serious European traveler's booklist. Don't pass it up.

My brother and I both lived in Europe (in different places) and we both used this book extensively. The book enabled us to visit shrines that otherwise we would not have known existed. The book was easy to use and included the history of each shrine, directions on how to get there, where to stay and how to contact the shrine. There is also a picture of each shrine, with made it easy to choose which shrines we wanted to see. Our stay in Europe was greatly enriched by the use of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book!, June 13, 2001
This review is from: Catholic Shrines of Western Europe: A Pilgrim's Travel Guide (Paperback)
What an awesome book! It's a great book to have on hand, whether you will be visiting Europe, or would just like to learn more about all the great shrines of Europe (i.e. Lourdes, Fatima, etc.). The book is exhaustive in its coverage, and very enjoyable to read. The contact information for each shrine is extremely helpful and useful. I highly recommend this book, and it makes for a great gift too.

A very good book full of information. The only thing i didnt like is that they talk about certain images of The Blessed Virgin , but dont show her. Only the builing... I think more pictures of the statues at the shrine and less of the outside of them would be better. But i gave it five stars for the information. It great for that reason only.
