If you have colored or treated hair DO NOT GET IT. The product contains alcohol and will affect the color of your hair. If your hair is natural, then get it. It will leave your hair soft. personally, I did not use. I wish AMAZON could give a list of the ingredients in the product for a heads up.

I got this because I'd been using the Fantasia line for a couple years but wasn't too sure it was giving me the level of protection I need for the amount of heat I use on my hair. I have bi-racial, heat trained hair. It's not course or too thick but it does tend to drink product.
1-This spray smells like a man's cologne. I could get pass that if it worked but my entire bedroom smelled like a Macy's men's fragrance counter after I finished. 2-The spray is sticky and wets the hair. After I spend 45 minutes under the drier, more water is the last thing my hair needs before I put a hot tool through it. You should never flat iron wet hair and this spray causes you to do just that. Wet + Heat = fried. 3-It dried my hair out. It took me twice as long to do my hair and then it looked a mess when I finished. I now have to go back give myself a moisture treatment because of the dryness I have with this product. All the work I did pre-poo'ing, deep conditioning, and roller setting was completely UNDONE by using this product. I thought since Chi hot tools are so highly recommended in the black natural hair community (well that portion that heat trains anyway) that their products would be a safe bet. This was waste of $13 and I will not be using it again. I even used it twice just to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong. I'll be going back to more serum based heat protectors from now one. I never had this problem with the Fantasia line.

I bought this product after doing tons of research on flat irons. I was so paranoid that I would end up damaging my hair, but loved the look that a flat iron achieved on my short, prone to random waviness, locks. I've used the thermal guard almost every time I use the flat iron and my hair is in fantastic condition. Granted, I do let it go au natural on the weekends and whenever possible, but still end up flat ironing at least three to four times a week. On the days I don't use the thermal guard, I notice that my hair seems frizzier and doesn't have the healthy bounce that usually accompanies heat styling. While this product will never replace my beloved though discontinued Thermasilk Heat Guard, due to its sticky texture that really only makes it suitable for direct heat applications, its day-to-day performance ranks it as one of my styling "Must Haves." The only detractor...and it's a personal one...is the smell. Others rave about its scent, but I'm put off by the strong aroma of men's cologne or aftershave that this product has. As such, I always make sure to style my hair early in my morning routine so as to allow it to dissipate some before applying my own feminine perfume.

First off, if you have an Ulta beauty store near you, I would recommend going there to buy this product because they carry it for a much lower price. If Amazon is your only option however, then it's worth ordering. CHI is professional quality and it protects your hair with unrivaled results. It's probably the best product out there for heat protection, and if you're concerned about hair damage from straightening then you should order it. When I first used it on my hair it felt kind of sticky before it dried, but that's normal. I straighten my hair nearly every day now and it still has shine, but when I used other products in the past I wasn't getting the same results as CHI. 5 stars for the product itself, but the price is much lower at Ulta.

Perfect for my hair,

I am a woman and I have long slightly wavy, slightly damaged, very tangly hair that I blow-dry and flat iron frequently. I would find myself flat ironing a section of hair several times to get it to be really straight, and then an hour later, it would be a little wavy and very tangled.
I decided to try this product, CHI Iron Guard, in hopes to ease my straightening experience, and it helps so much! I find that when I spray this on dry hair before using my flat iron, it helps my flat iron significantly- I only need one pass of the straightener to give it that really straight look. Also, it surprisingly has helped get rid of my tangles, too! I know that when I use this my hair will be straight all day long. I spray this on dry hair and let it dry for a few seconds. It immediately gets hard- kinda crunchy, like hair spray- but when the flat iron goes over it, this texture goes away and leaves my hair feeling soft. I have used this for about 3 weeks and I haven't noticed it helping my damaged hair- that hair is dead and I have to let it grow out- but I'm pretty sure I'm damaging my hair less now because I don't have to flat iron as much, and I can turn the heat down because the spray makes the iron more effective. I would give this 5 stars, but I have deducted 1 star because of the smell. It smells pretty manly, almost the way you would think a man's hair product would smell. It doesn't smell bad, but just weird considering I am a woman using this. I love the smell of my conditioner, so it's too bad that this drastically conflicts with it. But it works SO well, that I can't stop using it. -MV

I'm sorry to say that I was not pleased at all with this product. It might be because I don't know how to use it, but the fact is that is leaves my hair feeling dry and not loose.
I don't know what to do with it now. I will not buy it again for sure. |
