4.0 out of 5 stars Probably the most well received cat product I have ever bought
Other than regular cat furniture (the wood type with carpet stapled to it), this is the only thing my cat actually uses. Everything else, from motion-sensing-electronic-mouse-moving Cheese Mountain to a multitude of chase-me type toys were investigated and enjoyed for 1 to 25 seconds at best. Anyway, so there's 3 parts to the oddly named Cat "Spa":

3.0 out of 5 stars My cats show no interest
Every cat is different and I think the Hagen Living World Cat Spa is either hit or miss. I wanted my girls to love this, but they completely ignore it. I agree with a previous reviewer that it is a nice product and well built but despite the catnip they just walk right past. I even tried shoving treats in between the little bristles to get them interested. Still no dice...

4.0 out of 5 stars Probably the most well received cat product I have ever bought, June 7, 2008

(1) The central rubbing area with strange poking out teat. Well it looks odd but the cat seems to enjoy it, and has partially eaten the teat at the center so that usually signals acceptance. This part is why I only gave it 4 stars, and not five however. Firstly I had to superglue the teat piece (p.s. I apologize for my overuse of the word "teat" in this review) in as the cat can easily remove it/bite it off. Secondly I've kicked the entire center piece off about 20 times, it only has 3 weak plastic tabs keeping it in place, so evenutally I epoxyed it on and then re-superglued it later. I guess maybe that's unfair but it's at just the right height where your feet will hit it when stepping over.

(2) Spikey areas designed for cats to rub their faces on. This is the least used area, I don't think my cat has done this since the first day. They also have some space for cat-nip to be loaded in them, which might incite some more interest, but quite frankly I don't have time or desire to keep fresh catnip in this thing.

(3) The best part: The white dimpled hard plastic sections. Though not like any other scratching material I've usually seen associated with cat toys (carpet, rope, cardboard etc.) this odd surface is *the* choice of anything to scratch on. Apparently feline scientists have found the true scratching nirvana for cats, as this is it, my cat only uses this to scratch and does it routinely throughout the day.

Well that's it, I recommend the Cat Spa highly, despite it's odd name and need for superglue to achieve 5 stars :)

5.0 out of 5 stars How do you know if your cat will take to this?, May 27, 2009

Well, when I first got the Cat Spa for my two cats both showed no interest. I was frustrated and just left it on the floor. Then a day or two later I noticed my boy cat laying on it. Sure enough. He would go over to it and rub rub on the brushes and chew on the nub on the top. My girl? She avoided it like it was some kind of monster. The difference? It might just be my cats, but my boy (long hair) loves to be brushed. The girl? Hates brushes and MROWLS while she slinks away (short hair so she's lucky I guess). If your cat isn't used to being brushed or just dislikes it, don't expect them to like the Cat Spa.

I've owned the Cat Spa for over six years now. The blue plastic dome part has 3 tabs that hold it into place. Two of those have broken from 15lbs of cat deciding to slump over on it or me moving a couple of times (who knows). I'm planning to get some guerilla glue out and fix it permanently, but it still works. The chew chew nub is still in great condition as well. Does my kitty use the Cat Spa every day? No. He's a cat. He does what he wants when he wants! ;3 I would say atleast twice a week I will see him lounging around on it and if he's using it then it's worth the investment (considering how long it's lasted).

Cleaning it is easy. You can squeeze the three brush attachments and pull them off. They have small holes on the sides where you can slip some catnip in them as well.

Cat products are hard to rate, given the finicky nature of our furry companions. You can't knock a product because your cat just doesn't take to it.

My 2 cats didn't care for it, but my sister's cats love it. It is a gamble if your cat will like it. It does take up space. Sprinkle generously with catnip.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Cat Loves This, February 3, 2009
This review is from: Catit Cat Spa Deluxe Activity Center (Misc.)
My cat is not interested in most toys and gadgets I have bought her, but the Cat Spa is a clear exception. It is well designed and easy to put together. She visits it every day to rub against it and get high on the catnip. It is worth the floor space since she likes it so much. The only down side is that she can paw the loose catnip from the top, which makes a bit of a mess.

5.0 out of 5 stars 10 years later and the cat STILL loves it..., May 21, 2010

I've had this now for 10 years and my cat rubs on it almost daily STILL. Its been through a few cleanings and still works great. I would say a MUST HAVE for any cat owner.

Just received the cat spa today. I'm very pleased with the fast delivery time. It was relatively easy to assemble. My cats were all over it the second I put it on the floor, rubbing all over it and purring like mad! Since they both love catnip, it is possible that's the big draw... time will tell. I was pleasantly surprised to find a cat toy with a personalized thank you note from Les at PetPro when I opened the box - nice touch!

5.0 out of 5 stars every cat should have one!, November 26, 2010
This review is from: Catit Cat Spa Deluxe Activity Center (Misc.)
We have 3 of these for our 5 cats & our friend who has 3 cats got one for his cats after seeing this at our home.

I can't say enough about how much use this gets. Three cats can lay on it at the same time & get a nice rubdown!

We often sprinkle catnip on it because they really get into rubbing on it after eating the catnip before passing out on it!

Too bad Amazon only has links for videos as I have numerous fun photos of our catnip-stoned cats on this thing!

3.0 out of 5 stars Nicely built product but no interest to cats, September 28, 2008

The living world cat spa seems to be a well built cat product but our 2 cats show absolutely no interest in it. That doesn't mean that it won't work well for others but just note that ours sits all day with no attention.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your $$$, December 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Catit Cat Spa Deluxe Activity Center (Misc.)
I have 3 2-year-old Devon Rex cats, none of whom show any interest in this product unless I have just sprinkled it with fresh catnip. In other words, they respond to the catnip, not the product. When I put catnip on anything (furniture, bedding, etc), I get the same result -- a few minutes of meowing & rolling around, then walk away.

I did remove the combs in their presence, and stroke them with the combs, in an attempt to show them that they could generate a nice feeling by themselves if they roll on their back over the comb; however, unless the combs are sprinkled with catnip, they ignore them. They show no interest in the textured "bump" pads, even with the catnip, and they pretty much chewed up the rubbery center spindle knob in the first couple of days.

Save your hard-earned money and just buy fresh catnip periodically to sprinkle in a safe area, and use kitty brushes to groom your cats, and you'll be better off :)
