Biography

It doesn't take much to be a meteorologist in Los Angeles (usually just a short skirt and the ability to say "77 degrees and sunny"), so maybe that's why the city's most famous weatherman is a rapper. Evidence is that rapper...and producer, as well as the newest signee to Rhymesayers Entertainment. But for many, the Venice-native will always be known by the title of his ... Editorial Reviews

Evidence presents Cats & Dogs, his highly anticipated third solo album and Rhymesayers debut. Evidence delivers like never before while maintaining his respected signature sound that earned him the title "Mr. Slow Flow." Featuring guest vocals from Raekwon, Aloe Blacc, Rakaa, Slug, Aesop Rock, Ras Kass & more as well as production from his own hand and friends Alchemist & DJ Premier, Cats & Dogs is Evidence's most cohesive solo album to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS ALBUM IS A BANGER!! November 24, 2011
By Ru
Format:Audio CD
This is album is a modern classic, straight up and down. It bangs from start to finish. Evidence knows how to make music. You can tell this is a huge part of his life because of the quality that he puts out. Yeah, his rhymes aren't super complicated like, Pharoe Monch, or Talib Kweli, but honestly it doesn't get more hip hop than Evidence. If aliens came from another planet and asked what hip hop music sounded like, I would play them this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Play it from Beginning to End September 30, 2011

This is quite simply a great album. 17 (really 16) tracks with no filler. The production is ridiculous, with notable bangers from Alchemist and Premier. Evidence doesn't have the most advanced flow, but his content is on point. "Red Carpet," "You," "James Hendrix" and "Well Runs Dry" are my favorites, and then the Primo-laced "Epilogue" closes things out nicely. In the past few months that have seen Apathy's Honkey Kong, Phonte's Charity Starts at Home, and Slaine's A World Without Skies, Cats & Dogs might be the best. Highly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Evidence returns on a new label with "Cats & Dogs" January 22, 2012
Format:Vinyl
When the California trio Dilated Peoples went on hiatus at the end of 2006, it was due to them getting out of their contract with Capitol Records. They recorded four albums with the label despite being constantly pressured to deliver a big radio single. Evidence announced he was releasing his solo debut "The Weatherman LP" in 2007 on the indie label ABB Records- Dilated Peoples' original home. The reception of the solo project was well received- even if it ran on longer than expected and sounded noticeably commercial for an underground hip hop album. Things started to look bleak as ABB was having financial troubles over a year after the issuing of "The Weatherman LP", so Evidence went to Decon Records in 2008 to release "The Layover EP" while trying to figure out where he should go next. In 2010, Evidence signed a deal with the Minneapolis based hip hop label Rhymesayers Entertainment to release his sophomore follow-up "Cats & Dogs"- an album he had been working on for almost three years.

On this new record, he works with a lot of longtime producers, such as his friend The Alchemist (Who produces five songs on the album) and Sid Roams (Who produced the songs "Late For The Sky", the Krondon assisted "Well Runs Dry" and the first single "To Be Continued..."). For the first time in a decade, Evidence links up with DJ Premier on the songs "You" as well as the album closer "The Epilogue". He also brings in new producer Rahki (best known for Curren$y's "#jetsgo") on the track "Falling Down" as well as "It Wasn't Me". On the song "I Don't Need Love"- the lone song produced by Evidence- he goes into detail about how he dealt with his mother's death with additional vocals from Noelle Scaggs of Fitz & The Tantrums. He collaborates with Mobb Deep's Prodigy as well as former Flipmode Squad member Roc Marciano on the song "Fame", and gets assistance from fellow Dilated Peoples member Rakaa, M.O.P.'s Lil' Fame and Boston rapper Termanology on "Where You Come From". He also works with Aloe Blacc on the brief album opener "The Liner Notes" as well as Raekwon and Ras Kass on the personal confession "The Red Carpet". Overall, Evidence's "Cats & Dogs" is an album where Evidence shows growth and maturity. He's more focused this time around and gives the fans what they expect from him- pure unadulterrated hip hop.
