Chilling without being gory,
By Nique Le'Fay (Hampton, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cat's Eye (Paperback)
This is one of the best horror novels I have ever read. I have owned it for years and just keep picking it up. The Garrett family is original yet traditional and the spins Mr Johnstone takes on The Devil and cults are intriguing. I've taken all the books I have read to a used book store twice a month to make room for new ones but this survives the weeding down process every time. And I don't mind saying it gave me nightmares the first time I read it! I would definitely urge anyone thinking of buying this book to get it. You will not be disappointed.

One thing to notice about all of Johnstone's Horror,
By Mac "Vote none of the above" (FREDERICKSBURG, TEXAS United States) - See all my reviews

in relation to us - the readers.
As is evidenced by all the reviews I have read: YOU WILL EITHER LOVE HIS WRITING OR HATE HIS WRITING. You must decide. And if you are to decide I would start with this book. I read it in 1988 (Thanks to my friend for loaning it to me), and now 18 years later I am writing a review to tell you that this Cat's Eye was more entertaining to me than Sir King's Cat's Eye. I am ordering this book to own for myself and read for the first time in 18 years, and then I will systematically read The Devil's Trilogy and the rest of Johnstone's Horror.

The book read so well I couldn't put it down and now that I have finished it(2 days), I can't wait to get my hands on the next one of it's kind. I have read several books by this author and have enjoyed them all, he has a unique outlook that makes sense if you consider the surrounding situations. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

Romance + Horror = Interesting Read.,

This review is from: Cat's Eye (Paperback)
This was a VERY good read. One of the few books that portrays cats in both a good and bad light. With all of the negative connotations - such as "all dogs go to heaven" "cats and dogs" etc, one would be out to think Cats are evil creatures. Johnstone paints them closer to being human, on both sides. That was one of my favorite parts.
Very, very opinionated read. It has a christian view to it, although it doesnt seem to churchy. What with a dead hand "goosing" someone. It had me up late reading it - and while it's gory in some parts, it's still an awesome read. I'm currently looking for other books in this series. Dont read if you're too prissy, tho. Sometimes it gets a little grusome, and sexual.

Great Novel,
By Meat Loaf (the room at the top) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cat's Eye (Paperback)
This is possibly my favorite book ever written. There are several inconsistancies, but if you are somewhat intelligent, you can keep up. One of my favorite is when the character Mike actually answers himself. Its realy obvious that he was rushed to write the book. On the back cover, it identifies Carl Garrett as Carl Garnett, another slip. All in all, this book strums at your psyche, and once you get into full swing, you CANNOT put the book down for the evening!

Don't waste your time,
This review is from: Cat's Eye (Paperback)
I cannot believe anybody would give this sorry mess 4 or 5 stars. It is horrible. This was my first and only Johnston book and I wish I had never picked this one. I know the Devil is around but this is so bad and boring, I could hardly finish it. read it if you dare.
