5.0 out of 5 stars A magical video. I loved it.
If you've seen CATS on Broadway, this video will bring back the memories and give you a whole new perspective. If you've never seen CATS on Broadway, you'll be mesmorized by this video and you'll be booking your flight to NYC while the credits roll.

3.0 out of 5 stars a nice little excursion into the world of cats
This is a short playful documentary delving into the relationship of ordinary cats with their people. There are several cute snippets of different people talking about and showing off their cats. The cats featured are most often regular house cats rescued from the ASPCA, though one woman keeps an ocelot (which frankly didn't seem too happy with her).

People looking for a serious documentary of cat history, animal psychology, or cat breeds should look elsewhere...this is mostly an indulgence. The truly smitten cat lover will enjoy the film as brief entertainment, though, and I especially recommend it for viewing by families, for it is certainly funny.

A comment made by the late Roger Caras (former head of the ASPCA) near the beginning of the video sums up the mood of the film pretty well: "Owning a cat is like an American tourist eating in a fancy restaurant in Paris.... you're going to be overcharged, you're going to insulted... but somehow to *you* it is worth it." And to me, it was.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Cast! Not quite the Stage Show!, December 21, 1998
By A Customer

I've always enjoyed the London production over Broadway! So book your ticket for London, now that you've had the teaser.

A little of the magic was lost when they re-worked things to include video-magic, instead of stage-magic. And trying to cut-down a big stage event into an image that fits on the little box.

A great reminder after seeing the live show. And a good warm-up before going to see it.

...mediocre, silly, embarrassing, and outside of "Memory," totally forgettable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!, November 25, 1998

CATS totally ROCKS!!!! This is great! If you've ever hear the Original Broadway Cast, it's even better than that, in some parts!!! Grizabella is played by Elaine Paige. Old Deuteronomy is played by Ken Page. The Rum Tum Tugger is played by John Partridge, and Mr. Mistoffelees is played by Jacob Brent. This is the best movie I've ever seen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Vivat! Life and thanks to the Everlasting Cat!!, July 25, 1999

AAAUUGGHHH!!!! IT IS FABULOUS!!!! Everything about it is incredible. Jacob Brent (Mr. Mistoffelees) is an incredible dancer. You can hear the cast and crew cheering him on. Phyllida Crowley Smith (Victoria) is another fantastic dancer. Elaine Paige (Grizabella) is a wonderful singer. She truly brought life to her character. Jo Gibb and Drew Varley (Rumpleteazer and Mungojerrie) had a wonderful song, and incredible, fun voices. (Which were NOT dubbed!) The Jellicle Ball dance blew my mind.

Sure, the editing's choppy, but no one can say it takes anything away from the video. There are a few scenes that might be slightly inappropriate for young children, but nothing shocking.

All in all, you would NOT be wasting your money if you bought this. It is a great thing to see with a family, or by your self. It is fabulous. That's the bottom line.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Jellicle Performance Reborn- I LOVED IT!!!, December 28, 1998

Well, as we all know, nothing could ever add up to seeing CATS live (take my word for it, I've seen it on Broadway three times), but it was GREAT! My only complaint is: Whatever happened to Growltiger's Last Stand? I love that sequence! Nevertheless, it still is the best musical ever written, and Elaine Page is absolutely enchanting! ~Jellylorum
