Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Somewhere in San Diego, nine cats, one canine, and two humans live in bliss, without a fur- or dustball in sight. In the colorful house that Bob (BobCat) Walker and his wife, Frances Mooney, have designed for pure feline pleasure, this peaceable kingdom is in constant, fetching flux. Cats into Everything, Walker's follow-up to The Cats' House, records the endless fascination the stars of the show exert. From litter habits to excessive ear licking, no subject is taboo. The couple even went so far as to place a camera, set to flash every 13 minutes, over their bed in order to record nocturnal comings and goings. Suffice it to say that on average two people and five pussycats tossed and turned, though one photo features seven cats. (The heavy occupancy rate leads us to suggest that the authors invest some of the profits from this book in a king-size mattress.)

Walker's finest innovation is photographing from the ground up. Somehow, BobCat gets his charges onto large sheets of glass and snaps away, turning quotidian activities like eating, stalking, and sleeping into an art that may not be high but is definitely hilarious. The full-page photo of Denise, left front paw smooshed against the glass, her gaping mouth in search of maximum kibble, is only one among the book's many laugh-fests. And the next spread, three tabbies lapping up milk, is even more entertaining. Of course, there's a thin line between doting and dotty--one this menagerie more than occasionally toes. But underneath all the silliness lies a serious aim, as Walker writes: "It is our hope that Cats into Everything will encourage others to look into their own relationships (animal and human) and devote more 'quality' time before it's too late." Mission mirthfully accomplished. --Kerry Fried

5.0 out of 5 stars Required Viewing, April 13, 2002

Every kitten should come equiped with this book. If you don't like it, you ought to consult a physician. A no-BS, colorful, I-wanna-kittie book, we loved every page. But then...ours is a multi cat home with house cats, barn cats, in-the-studio cats and even yard cats. So maybe I'm a bit too subjective, waddya think?

It's not brain surgery, it is just plain cute. Right now I am ordering six more copies to send to friends and family. No kidding.

What a fun celebration of life with housecats. Gorgeous, unusual and dynamic photographs accompanied by whimsical text document the daily interactions between housecats and their people. The author has focused on his cats, but they are so like my cats that he has truly struck a universal chord. From eating to sleeping to playing to sunning themselves, this book celebrates our favorite things about our feline friends. A delightful gift for cat lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, August 6, 2001

When I first read The Cat's House by Bob Walker, which I found marvellous, I though no other book could be made in a similar manner. When I recently read his second book, Cats into Everything, I simply found it so close to everyone who has got cats and really love them, that I even got touched by some of the narrative. Under my point of view, the book is a personal tribute to their beloved cats, specially to TomCat who really touched me deeply without knowing him personally. Great book that keeps very much its presentation and pictures which show the everyday live of home cats. I do not regret having read it.
