Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-K-Eleven cats-from curious to proud to happy and lazy-adorn the pages of this simple book. There are only 22 words in the whole book, descriptors for this display of Kimble's decorative folk art, for example, Mat cat; Clean cat. Created in historical milk-paint colors, these stylized cats painted on distressed wood will charm Kimble collectors and bring smiles to cat lovers. Children may enjoy a lapsit reading with a clever adult who can find something to discuss, and budding readers could use the book as a vocabulary builder, but for the most part, this is simply a nice showcase of the artist's paintings.-Angela J. Reynolds, Annapolis Valley Regional Library, Bridgetown, NS, Canada

5.0 out of 5 stars FOR FELINE FANCIERS, December 19, 2010
This review is from: The Cat's Meow (Paperback)

Thanks to the imaginative vision and gifted palette of artist Warren Kimble his favorite cats not only catch eyes but win hearts. From "Mat Cat," a serene orange ball of fur who stakes out territory on a rug to"Happy Cat," a contented black and white bright eyed feline who perches atop a gift box, all rendered in the incomparable Kimble manner.
As most know, he is one of the foremost folk artists in our country with his popular cats being found on everything from notepads to wallpaper. A former elementary art teacher, he left teaching to find a home in Vermont he once shared a 200 year old barn with cows, sheep, chickens and various four legged creatures.
He's happiest when painting on distressed wood - antique doors, breadboards, tabletops.
We're happy leafing through The Cat's Meow and enjoying his full color cat paintings - all done on his favorite surface, distressed wood.
Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love Cats and Love Warren Kimbal's Cats especially, February 19, 2007

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Cat's Meow (Hardcover)
I must start off my saying I am a great fan of the artist Warren Kimbal and would love any book with his animals. But the "Cat's Meow" is particularly important because my grand-daughter ADORES cats and, at 3 1/2, is trying to copy her older brother in reading letters and trying to learn to read words. This book will be perfect for her! There are so many fun cats and so few and such simple words! It will give her a great feeling of accomplishment and equality with her brother as she turns the pages and reads the words!
