Book Description

August 8, 2007
In a dangerous and uncertain world, can a group of individuals find the courage of faith to risk and seek after something higher? A story of community, family, friends and enemies, "Catsmas" is an anthropomorphic tale (human traits given to animal characters) of love and hate, good versus evil, leaders and followers, youth and maturity, jealousy and grace, deception and truth, nobility and selfishness. "Catsmas" also asks the question, "what happens if the prodigal son doesn't come home?" Whether appreciated simply as a good story or for a deeper allegorical meaning, "Catsmas" will be enjoyed at different levels by readers of all ages. Kevin Rice is an author, parent, lawyer and is active in his community. A native Southern Californian, his writings have appeared in "The Orange County Register" and other publications around the country. In writing "Catsmas" Kevin drew upon his experience as a writer and illustrator of stories for his children and his diverse background in politics, the practice of law, and coaching youth athletics. He holds a B.A. Degree in Political Science from California State University Fullerton, and a J.D. from Western State University, and together with his wife Laura and their four children he lives near the city of Orange, California. When he's not writing or coaching, Kevin enjoys attending to his urban hobby farm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Catsmas Cats on the march!!, September 6, 2007

This review is from: Catsmas (Paperback)
Many upon picking up this heartfelt short book, will perhaps expect something along the lines of childhood favorites such as Rabbit Hill or The Wind in the Willows. What they are actually receiving is a work more like Watership Down or Horwood's Duncton Wood in tone. A Meerkat Manor for today's lierary world. It is not an easy trek for the Cats at Catsmastime to find the wasy to their very own "promised land". There are hurdles to cross, blizzards to endure, dissenssion, death, bloody paws, and some adult issues including loyalty and absolute friendship, but there is also the bittersweet HAPPY ENDING which is a pleasant surprise for any age group. With fall rapidly approaching, this is the perfect book for a tad older age group - to read perhaps during all those airlplane rides no matter where you're going!! Highly Recommended - certainly for America's many CAT lovers!!
