Book Description

November 7, 2007
Book Description:

"Táin Bó Cúailnge ("the driving-off of cows of Cooley", more usually rendered The Cattle Raid of Cooley or The Táin) is the central tale in the Ulster Cycle, one of the four great cycles that make up the surviving corpus of Irish mythology. It is recorded in Old and Middle Irish, and is written mainly in prose, with some verse sections, especially at moments of heightened tension or emotion. The tale relates a war against Ulster by the Connacht queen Medb and her husband Ailill, who intend to steal the stud bull Donn Cuailnge, and the efforts of the teenage Ulster hero Cúchulainn to oppose them." (Quote from wikipedia.org)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cattle Raid of Cooley, August 5, 2008
By
This review is from: The Cattle-Raid of Cooley: Tain Bo Cuailnge (Forgotten Books) (Paperback)
This was the first translation published by Lady Augustus Gregory at the turn of the 19-20th centuries(about 1902). Her writing was highly praised by W.B. Yeats and others. The saga is of one of Irelands greatest heroes.Exceptionally written. An exciting tale of great proportion. Highly recommended to read aloud as the originals were. A must readfor all.
