More About the Author

I love books and magazines, and I've been fortunate enough to write three young adult novels based on the Smallville TV series and a bunch of Batman children's books (some with stickers! I have arrived).

I've also written O, the Oprah Magazine; Marie Claire; Jane; Harper's Bazaar; Rolling Stone; Details; and others. Some of my O articles were even included in the O Guide to Life book series. I mean, can it get any better than that?

Well, yes, it can. My own book, Cherries in Winter, an inspirational memoir about my family, was published in hardcover in November 2009 (thank you, Doubleday), and will be out in paperback (love you, Viking) in October, 2010.

In the kitchen, I am more menace than novice. My specialty is a rather dense, earthy banana bread made with whole wheat flour and blackstrap molasses. I know my husband is a kind and loving man because he eats it and tells me it's good.

We have two cats. Thus far, they have not tried to escape, so we must be doing something right.

This book is a great tribute to Catwoman, and it's just as stylish as she is! Readers will love the purple vinyl cover and will ooh and ahh over the hundreds of color photos. There is information on Catwoman from all the various phases of her life, including comic book, movie, and television appearances. The book contains a small amount of history on Catwoman, but it's not very in-depth. This is supposed to be a fun pictorial tribute to everyone's favorite feline fatale, and that's exactly what it is.

2.0 out of 5 stars Print equivalent of a fan website, January 12, 2004

This was a very pretty book to look at, but it didn't offer much information. It listed the women who played Catwoman on TV and film, and it gave a bit of background regarding her origin story ... and that was it. The rest was a bunch of cute profile quips, fashion tips, and bits of attitude, all accompanied with collages of panels from the comics.

If you're looking a sassy coffee table book with gorgeous artwork, this book is great. It's spunky, well-designed, and fun to look at. Don't expect much actual background information, though. It didn't offer any info about the various books she's been in. No information about who has written her and who has drawn her (beyond call-out quotes from some of these creators). I really would have liked credits and more descriptive text to accompany the artwork. The additional sketchbook pages were nice but ultimately not much more than what you get in the current comic.

Overall it really reminded me of a puff piece in a women's magazine like Cosmo Girl - very nice to look at, but light on information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Purrrrfect!, June 1, 2003

I have been a Catwoman (or "Catty" to her friends) fan since FOREVER! It was a wonderful surprise to see that she FINALLY got some recognition for her impact on comics and her illustrious career as comic's "felonious feline." I thank my special comic vendor for the special copy of this fine collectible! Her costume alone has been the epitome of feminimity and the deelite of adolescent males (and females?) everywhere for many generations. There hasn't been as much marketing and memorabilia for Catwoman over the years. Less popular female comic characters seemed to have garnered more (much to my chargrin), but Catty has managed to hold her own throughout the ages. Hopefully the upcoming "Catwoman" movie starring the spectacular Halle Berry will change this.

This book has been fun to read and a great tribute to a woman who has never taken life seriously and herself even less. It's this reason why she's immortally fabulously fierce and a world famous FELINE FATALE.... MeOw! >^o.-^<
