Live, loud and superb,

For anybody who has never heard RCR, this is the album for you. The quality is excellent considering it is live and the whole 'buzz' of the album makes toes tap and fingers snap. Eddie Nichols' vocals are razor sharp, sharper than the whole bands dress sense. All the tracks are overflowing with snappy, fast beats and some exceptional horn work from Scott Steen. Tracks of note are Mousetrap and hot rod. This is one album you will wear out before tiring of that RCR sound.

Possibly the best live album I have ever heard,

I recently picked up the live Royal Crown Revue CD and it is incredible. I put off getting this disc for a while after having been a fan of the band for some time, being skeptical of other live recordings I have heard in the past of other musicians. This skepticism was erased by Eddie and the rest of the solid RCR lineup. This disc swings into high gear with crisp precision that is witnessed on their studio records and with the energy and entertainment of a live show. This disc should make any swing fan who has not got to see these guys perform see them live. I know I am anxiously awaiting my chance. Thumbs up for a terrific album and band.

Best live swing album by the best swing band!,

This review is from: Caught in the Act (Audio CD)
This album is what swing is all about: you got you got fast swing, some slower swing to use while you and your honey cool down, and it's all performed by the best swing band around. Eddie Nichols' vocals ring crystal clear (as they should in any good live recording) and as usual, he's in perfect pitch. And of course, the boys all got his back and play their instruments to swingin' perfection. The great part is being able to hear every instrument and all the vocals clearly, and boy do those cats put on a show! I've seen RCR live and this cd completely does them justice. Now I just wish they'd come out with another live one! If you're a fan of RCR, or swing in general, buy this cd!

I "caught" RCR in the act at Pleasure Island on Fourth of July weekend. Their show was fabulous as indicated by the large crowd swinging in front of the outdoor stage. Most of the songs they performed that night are found on this CD. The vocals of Eddie Nichols along with Scott Steen on trumpet, Veikko Lepisto on bass and BamBam Danny Glass on the skins are first-rate. "Boogie After Midnight", "Park's Place" and "Datin' With No Dough" head the list of outstanding tracks on this, my favorite CD. Other neo-swing bands pale in comparison to these boys from L.A. If you like their music, make the effort to catch them in act live. They swing!

"Caught in the Act" is a great live CD by RCR! I've been a fan of these guys since "Kings..." came out on Byo records. I listen to a lot of ska and swing, and this is one of the best live Cd's I've heard. I just want to get up and dance like crazy as soon as Barflies starts. How can you not love this band? This Cd is great, but hard to find, though still definetly worth the search. Check out other RCR stuff too, it's all great.

This album epitomizes the revival of swing.,

Royal Crown Revue shows us what musicians are supposed to be in this disc. Constantly being played in both my car and at home, I never get tired of these tunes. This album has a perfect mix of fast and furious to laid-back and easy. Everything that any swing or jazz-crazed fan would appreciate packed into a thin piece of hardware.

Royal Crown Revue = Best in the Biz,

After listening to this album for almost a year, I still can't get enough of it. While most live albums can't compare to the recorded ones, this is not the case for Caught in the Act.I've always loved Sinatra's version of "Something's Gotta Give", and Royal Crown Revue knows how to do it justice. "Who Dat?" is a great tune (as they all are), and the solos in "Hey, Pachuco!" make you wish the song could go on forever. Buy this CD!

The single best swing I have heard,

This album is the kind of album I'd use to intro anyone to swing. It has an amazing amount of energy, and starts hard and fast and never lets you down untill the last note of the last song.Highlights are 'Barflies at the Beach', 'Hey Pachuco'(with some incredible highlight work from several band members), and 'Poppity Pop Goes The Motorcycle'(The many false endings that just keep getting better and better). This is an album worth buying two of just so as to have a copy after your friends borrow it( and they will want to desperately)

After hearing the Royal Crown Revue live as an opening act for the B-52's, I had to go buy an album. This album captures the intensity of their live shows. If you like swing, rock, or music in general, you must experience the non-stop energy of this album.
